Doubletree Hotel Grand Junction

The rooms and staff felt worthy of a four-star hotel, and the cookies were amazing. But the breakfast was a real letdown. Even with a discount, I paid $28 for bagged eggs, stale potatoes, rubbery pancakes, and bruised fruit. The pork green chili was amazing, though it would’ve been even better with something decent to put it on. If breakfast costs extra, at least offer fresh food made to order instead of a continental spread like I can get for free at the Super 8. I booked an “Express Deal” on Priceline that should’ve covered all fees. The rooms were clean and comfortable, but I still had to pay $12 to park, extra local taxes, and a $50 hold on my card for incidentals. Everything beyond the rooms, staff, and cookies felt like what you’d expect from a tourist trap in a third World Country.

The property has a big self-parking lot, though there’s a $12 charge. Hopefully the fees go toward repaving it soon. There’s also lots of green space and a great spot for kids and dogs to play. The hotel has a lot of potential. The lobby, hallways, and rooms were clean and comfortable, and the bedding made for a great night’s sleep.

The staff were friendly and sorted out my concerns quickly, which is the only reason I’m not giving this a 1. The bed looked clean, and they did say the hotel is being updated. Until that work is done, please discount the rooms. This is a Double Tree, but the rooms are nowhere near the brand’s standards. They should rename it so it isn’t a stain on the brand. The rooms feel straight out of the 70’s, and I’m pretty sure the yellowed phones are from then too. The carpets were filthy, the ceiling was popcorn, clothes had been left in the room, and the curtains were stained. The furniture was old and scratched. We were told there was water in the room, but none was available.

The $12 parking fee is unusual, but my car was still there in the morning, which isn’t always the case where I live in ABQ, so I’m not complaining. I felt safe in the area and at the hotel as an older woman traveling alone. The location is very convenient, and the room was lovely, clean, and had comfortable beds and a beautiful view. The desk clerk was friendly and helpful, and the hot cookies were a nice treat. I stayed one night while visiting friends in Grand Junction and would definitely recommend it.
