Western Riviera Lakeside Lodging

My wife and I had an incredible weekend away. The service was great, the rooms were clean, and the location is hard to beat. We’ll definitely be back.

Michael helped take care of everything our family needed for a wonderful Labor Day weekend. The rooms were comfortable, and the location was perfect. Once we parked, we never started the car again because everything in Grand Lake was an easy walk.

The view is beautiful, the staff are sweet, and the boardwalk location is great, but in July this room really needs AC. My wife and I were in town for our anniversary trip from Texas and stayed one night with the window and blinds open, trying to get some air into the burning-hot room. It was at the top of the stairwell, where people going up or down could see inside. Closing the window or shades would have made it too hot, even with us staying on top of the covers. There’s no AC, and unlike some other places, such as the YMCA hotel, that wasn’t advertised. The room is truly ugly, with an old green tile shower from the 60s. I had booked four nights but could only stay one. The owner refused to reimburse me. He said that if I checked out by 10 a.m. and someone else booked the room, he’d give some money back. I checked out before 10, but they didn’t even list it on the sites. I’m guessing they found a way to rent it and keep my over $1,000 for the remaining three nights. I feel like the owner is a con man. Please don’t fall into the same trap. It cost me over $1,000 on an anniversary we take every five years to find this out.

I’ve stayed at Western Riviera several times, but with new ownership the rate went up by $126 per night this year, with no upgrades to justify such a huge increase. The hotel is right on Grand Lake and downtown, which is a big plus, and I do like the view. Still, at $346 a night, the room wasn’t worth it. There were extension cords because there weren’t enough outlets, the overhead fan couldn’t be turned off, and the room felt a bit shabby. I won’t stay again unless upgrades justify the big rate increase.
