The Center Hotel Grand Rapids Airport

Getting to the airport was easy, and my room and the service were great. The one downside was the hot tub, which was colder and cloudier than I’d like. Victor checked us in and was really helpful and knowledgeable. Grandville was so kind and seemed to do everything: he took my breakfast order, made my Starbucks drink, set my table, and drove the airport shuttle. The staff were great!

It’s my son’s ninth birthday today, but the pool was over capacity because of a birthday party. He threw up on the floor, and when we called the front desk, they said we had to clean it ourselves. Fine, but in a room meant for four people with only two towels, how were we supposed to clean up vomit? There weren’t any towels in the pool area either. If you’re coming for the hot tub, don’t bother, only one jet works. This is the worst hotel service I’ve had.

People in the pool area were all complaining, including those without kids. The slide wasn’t working, and they said the resort taxes would apply if it worked, so don’t count on it coming back. The pool felt literally freezing, the hot tub was barely bath-water warm, and there were no towels. I got one towel after asking, so after swimming I had to walk through the freezing elevator and hallway in a wet towel or go back to the desk for an exchange. They were out or washing them. The chairs were shredded, the rooms weren’t fully cleaned, and there was a spilled coffee cup and stains left on the heater. The blind hadn’t been moved. No breakfast, and basic food cost $18. No coffee either, you had to pay at Starbucks. The front desk was extremely difficult to deal with, and the hallways and elevators were freezing too. They said quiet time was strictly enforced from 10 p.m., presumably telling families that, but the floor above us was having a good time or playing Just Dance until 2 a.m. Unless you’re a couple who just wants the bar, avoid this place. Buy some cheap towels like every other hotel. The hotel’s replies promising to work on things or fix them seem false. Great for airport couples, that’s about it.

The room chair was shredded, the sidewalks still had ice on them, and the whole place smelled of weed. The pool was cold and gross, and the slide was fenced off with orange barriers and marked out of service. This place seems to be going downhill. No breakfast is one thing, but they didn’t even have a free cup of coffee at the desk. They sent us to a Starbucks on the way out. It wasn’t as advertised.
