Hampton Inn & Suites Grand Rapids Downtown

We stayed four or five nights, and the only reason we picked this hotel was that it had a room when other places we'd used nearby didn't. Check-in came with no warning that parking cost $18 per night, and they also said they wouldn't protect our car if anything happened. We were assigned the wrong room type, without the pullout sofa we'd paid $40 extra per night for. The desk clerk didn't even know those rooms had pullout beds, or what parking cost. Later the key wouldn't open the garage exit, so I had to go up to the third floor to sort it out. They waived the fee for that night and the next day. There were other problems throughout the stay. The accessible room had no drawers or clothing storage. Breakfast had dusty metal bars by the food, okay waffle toppings, and yogurt sitting out in a metal bowl instead of being chilled. Towels were often missing from the pool area, and apparently they ran out for the whole hotel too. The pool and hot tub were disgusting every day from Wednesday through Sunday. Housekeeping never came by, not once. We only wanted trash bags and towels so we could tidy up ourselves. When we asked, the desk told us to wait for housekeeping, but they skipped our room. After I called again, they said they were short staffed, apologized, and told me to come downstairs for supplies. Other hotels have brought needed items to my room when service was missed. Having housekeeping only every other day also feels cheap. This place missed the mark in so many ways.

The breakfast was fantastic, and there was plenty for kids. Hot choices included chicken sausage, Yukon gold potatoes, western omelets, hard boiled eggs, and oatmeal with brown sugar, sliced almonds, and raisins. There were two waffle stations, one for a big waffle and another for four small ones, with butter, regular or sugar free syrup, honey, chocolate sauce, and strawberry sauce. For grab and go, they had toast, English muffins, muffins, mini blueberry and lemon poppy seed scones, and small boxed cereals. Drinks included regular and decaf coffee, 2% and skim milk, orange and apple juice, and water. The pool and hot tub were open too.

We picked the Hampton Inn & Suites Grand Rapids Downtown for a nearby race and had a great two night stay. The bed was incredibly comfortable, the view was amazing, and the bathroom was huge, a nice treat after a long day. The hotel itself was spacious, clean, and beautiful, with modern touches throughout. Breakfast was hot and delicious, with plenty to choose from and something different each morning. The staff were friendly, professional, and ready to help. We'd happily recommend it and stay there again.

We were there for hockey and a 13 year old's birthday. After swimming, we found no towels to dry off with, and a man said they'd been out since Thursday. There was no coffee in the lobby either. The woman didn't mention that coffee was available in the breakfast bar. I found the staff rude and unhelpful. A friend of mine runs the breakfast bar in Batesville, AR, and says she treats everyone like family, with hugs exchanged with guests. No hugs here!
