The Finnley

I liked the decor and found the bed comfortable. The person I called was kind and helped me figure out how to get into our room. The room itself was fine for our one-night stay. It took about 10 minutes for the shower water to heat up, but that wasn’t a deal breaker. Late checkout costs $25 an hour, which feels a little steep. I’d consider staying again when visiting Grand Rapids.

The room had witty, modern decor, and my partner especially liked the phonograph and records. But there weren’t enough blankets, towels, or trash cans. We both woke up congested each day, so maybe the heating wall unit needs its filter changed. The shower had nowhere to put toiletries because the wall shelf seemed to have been broken and removed, with the screws and bolts still there. Even with the great location, we’ll stay somewhere else next time.

The location was a big plus, with loads of food and entertainment within walking distance. The room was good, though I missed having a microwave. Digital entry meant I didn’t interact with anyone from the hotel. That can be fine, but sometimes you want to see people, and not being greeted made the stay feel a little cold.

The Finnley made for a lovely couples getaway for my husband and me, and I’d gladly stay there again. I loved the artistic, moody feel, from the vinyl records and art to the city location. It all seemed thoughtfully put together for a nice experience. The room was clean and looked well cared for, though a few small things needed maintenance, like a loose bag hook on the wall. Plumbing noise from other showers was noticeable, but the provided sound machine covered it well. It was a great spot for our anniversary trip to Grand Rapids.
