The pool area and motel entrance looked neat and well cared for, so we had a good first impression. We booked a two queen room for $180 over Memorial Day weekend, when there weren’t many options. The room was another story. It smelled strongly of wet dog as soon as we opened the door, apparently because pets are allowed in every room. We tried to put up with it for one night, but couldn’t. When we asked to move, they said they were sold out and everyone had checked in. They offered to spray Febreze, but it didn’t cover the odor. I sprayed my perfume on the bedding, and we had to sleep with the window open, which made the room cold. The window stopper only let it open an inch or two. The rooms were very dated, with old bedding, no closet, and worn furniture. We didn’t feel comfortable using the bedding. Our friend came up to Oregon for Boatnik and stayed there too, paying $150 for a one king room. Their TV was shattered, and the chair was ripped and covered in dirt. We were so disappointed that we wouldn’t have cared about a refund if we’d been able to find another vacancy. Later, we were told that the property used to be permanent housing for homeless people, and that after it was bought and turned into a motel, only the outside was updated. That makes sense to me.

The breakfast was just cold mini pancakes, with only three left at 8 am, instant oatmeal packets, and cold coffee. When I complained at the desk about the noisy room, all I got was that they’d put it in my notes for next time. There won’t be a next time. I’d sooner sleep in my car with my dog in the rough part of town during a snowstorm without socks. Never staying at Super 8 again. I’d come hoping for a good night’s sleep and brought my service dog. They said they’d put us in a room by the back door so taking her out would be easier, but didn’t mention the stairs wrapped around most of the room. I could hear heavy footsteps, people running up and down, and their conversations. The heavy outside door directly above us slammed all night. The room felt like a tiny, ugly dungeon, with bare walls and barely enough space beside the bed for a narrow walkway. Its window had a pull shade with fake tire marks on one side and yellow road lines on the other, like a scrap of a child’s floor rug. The big window was unlocked, but only opened an inch onto the smoking area in the parking lot. The shower kept swinging from hot to cold in short bursts. Maid service knocked at 10 and again at 11 to ask when I was leaving, even though checkout was at noon.

The breakfast pancake machine was a hit with the kids. The counter staff were polite and welcoming, and the property was very clean. The rooms are a little dated, but comfortable and equipped with the usual amenities. A good stay for the price.

I work in Grants Pass regularly, but I won’t stay here again. The woman at the desk was rude, and it took half an hour to check me in even though the lobby was empty. She had to redo our keys twice before they worked, then kicked me out of the hot tub right at 10. Just a terrible experience. I’ll go anywhere else.

The breakfast selection was thin, just the pancake machine, some yogurt, and pastries, but the rest of the stay was great. Room 323 was quiet, the beds were comfy, and the carpet was clean. The pool was clean too, and the hot tub was properly hot. This was the nicest, cleanest, quietest Super 8 I’ve stayed in. I usually avoid the chain because it can feel low quality, but I’d come back for another weekend away from the cold in the Redwoods. Thanks!
