We felt comfortable here, and for our needs it worked well: we wanted somewhere about an hour outside Traverse City so we could make a morning event on time. The first floor interior rooms open into the dome with the pools and play structure. The children’s play area, shuffleboard, kiddie pool, main pool, and cute dining cabin were the reasons I gave it four stars. It was clean, and a basic breakfast was included. A lot of things seemed new, including the play structure, pool, and dining cabin. It’s apparently being remodeled. The red sign out front was broken, so they need a sign.
The kids loved the pool and air hockey, but the rooms were really dirty. My daughter dropped her stuffed animal by the bed, and when I reached down for it I found an empty beer can and wrappers. The heater blower also sounded like it was coming apart.
The room was disgusting. The carpet felt sticky and was stained, the furniture was badly outdated, there was black mold around the bathroom and window that made me worry about breathing it in, and even after several minutes the water barely got warm. I was locked out twice because the door locks weren’t working, and the front desk had to make new keys each time. Outside, the parking lot was dark and littered, and the garbage cans were overflowing throughout my stay. The whole property felt neglected and unsafe. Random people hung around the lot late at night, there were loud hallway noises, and I saw no security. It felt like a drug hotel, and I didn’t feel safe leaving my car or things unattended. My stay at Grayling Hotels in Grayling, MI was terrible from beginning to end. If you’re looking for Grayling Michigan hotel reviews or places to stay in Grayling, I wish someone had warned me. I’d strongly avoid this hotel. There are cleaner, safer options nearby that seem to care about guests and upkeep. If you’re searching for a dirty or unsafe hotel in Grayling, Michigan, this is the one to stay away from.
I checked in at 1 a.m. and spent more than 20 minutes trying to find my room. I asked the front desk for help twice, but got useless directions and pointing. The halls were shiny, but had no signs or directions, so I had to keep walking and checking the numbers on the doors. When I finally found the room, it was filthy. None of the lamps worked because there were no bulbs, only the bathroom and entry lights came on. There were stains all over the bed and no mattress covers. I left and slept in my car.
We only needed a quick overnight stay on the way somewhere else, but I should have looked elsewhere. The room had stained bedding and felt unclean as soon as we walked in. Then, in the middle of the night, we found bugs in the bathroom. The stairs and hallways looked badly neglected too. Around 9:30 in the morning, a housekeeping man came into our room without knocking to ask when we were checking out. It was upsetting and felt like a real invasion of privacy, especially with my young kids there. The lobby looked decent and seemed renovated, but that was completely at odds with the rooms. We paid far too much for what we got. I’ve stayed in much nicer places for less and regret not reading the other reviews first. I rarely complain about a room, but this time I spoke to the staff and she basically brushed off my concerns. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone.
