Thornewood Inn

The dining and dancing space is roomy, with period antiques and classic artwork. Our room suited us well, and we had a terrific mountain view. The hosts live at the Inn and made sure everything was just right during our recent visit. My wife and I had a great time and give it five stars. Stockbridge is only a five-minute drive, with museums, galleries, and antique shops to explore. We’re hoping to return in summer to enjoy the pool and beautifully kept grounds.

Terry and David made us feel like family as soon as we arrived, while still giving us the space to settle in and feel at home. They were attentive and seemed to know what we’d need. They also took wonderful care of our toddler, with a high chair, a breakfast made for a picky eater, and a few toys. They handled a large family dinner professionally and made everyone feel welcome. We’re so grateful. We stayed in Lady Troy, a spacious room with a private bath and tub, mini-fridge, and free WiFi throughout the property. Breakfast was included each morning. Great Barrington, Stockbridge, and other sights were all easy to reach. Thornwood Inn is a beautiful Berkshire getaway, and our four-night stay was a treat for any occasion.

Our hostess was gracious, and breakfast was delicious. She also took my dietary restrictions into account. The room was sunny, lovely, and quite large, with a comfortable bed. There are lots of places to sit, both inside and out, and the antiques and decor are wonderfully varied and imaginative. The inn is comfortable and spacious, and there’s even a pool. We loved this charming place.

This was a comfortable place to sleep and the location worked well for our Berkshires getaway. It was a positive stay, though I’d set expectations realistically if you’re used to modern amenities. The inn was clean, but parts felt dated and a little worn. The carpets throughout the property need refreshing, even in a common bathroom. Our room’s lighting was so dim I could barely see to put on makeup, so bring a mirror if that matters to you. The bathroom did have shampoo, conditioner, soap, and a shower cap. Breakfast was a small buffet, not the restaurant-style spread I’d pictured from the glowing reviews. The food was tasty, with pancakes and other sweet items, eggs, breads, cereal, and fruit. If something ran out, it could take a while to find Terry to refill the coffee or eggs. It’s a quiet place without much staff around. There is, though, a room with a Keurig and hot water for tea or coffee around the clock, and baked goods at the entrance made a nice treat. The front door and rooms use old-fashioned keys. There’s no central air, and the window AC in our room got unusually loud when turned up high. It seemed like Terry might be running the whole place herself, though I can’t be sure, and that would be a lot for one person. The owners have a sense of humor: there’s an urn labeled “Ashes of Problem Customers.” Maybe this review earns me a spot.
