Best Western Angus Inn

The courtyard used to be a big reason our extended family chose this place. We've rented it more than a dozen times, and hotel guests always shared it with us. This visit, though, we were told we couldn't use it at all on our second night because it had been rented for the evening. The pool and arcade are there, and the courtyard is listed as a hotel amenity, so that was especially disappointing. We had 10 rooms and asked if we could just sit together and eat. They said they'd call the police if we did. That was shocking and completely unnecessary. We've stayed here several times a year for over 15 years, since I was a little girl. Swimming and playing in the arcade, which used to have even more games, are some of my favorite memories. It had become part of our family tradition, and until this past year we'd always had wonderful visits. Since new management took over, each stay has been worse, and this will be our last. There was also a frustrating issue at check-in. In August, we called ahead to reserve specific courtyard rooms and were told which room numbers we'd get. We arrived at 4:00 PM and were told those rooms weren't available, but relatives who arrived around 5:00 PM got those exact rooms. It wasn't a major issue for us, but it was worth mentioning. This used to work well for large families because of the courtyard and amenities. After these recent experiences under new management, we wouldn't recommend it anymore.

The room wasn't worth the price, and the hassle of staying at Best Western wasn't worth it either. I paid extra for outside access but was given an inside-access room. If I could get a refund, I would. If you're coming to Great Bend, I'd go with the cheaper option.

Perkins next door was the one bright spot. The room itself felt pretty dated, with odd little couch throw pillows that weren't comfortable, and black mold starting near the shower ceiling. Room #152's door looked like it had been kicked in before, and the latch only worked when I put all 190lbs of my weight into it. For a motel, the doors really need better security. Service was okay, though one of the guys seemed bothered to be checking people in. It wasn't a terrible stay, but those problems stood out.

There was old soap and room keys left in the room, plus mold on the ceiling. For what this place costs, that's not okay. The owner seemed cheap and not very attentive to the property. Aside from one man, people weren't dressed or acting appropriately, with cursing all over the place and little professionalism in how they presented themselves. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, not even an enemy.
