Holiday Inn Washington DC-Greenbelt MD by IHG

The room is spacious and smells great, and the hotel has useful extras like a gym, plus food and snacks for sale at the front desk. The building is under construction, but you can hardly tell. The free washers and dryers are a real plus since most hotels charge for that. Mabin and Brandon greeted me warmly at check-in and asked if I needed anything as soon as it was done. Kinidi at the desk was also kind and polite. They all gave me great customer service and made me feel welcome and at home. I'm very grateful, especially given my circumstances. I'm pleased to be staying at the Holiday Inn in Greenbelt, MD. Thank you all!

Construction was underway, and breakfast wasn't being served because of it. I really wish they'd told us before we arrived, since we had counted on breakfast as part of our budget stay. The room was okay, but I expected more from a major hotel. This is unacceptable, Holiday Inn needs to do better. We checked into a fifth-floor room and found that the elevator was partly stripped, with insulation and cardboard where the walls should have been. There were grease marks on the bathroom door frame. We reported them to the front desk clerk, who said they'd tell the cleaning staff, but the marks were still there when we came back that evening. The bathroom wall was coming loose, and the ceiling looked like it had suffered a bad leak.

As an IHG diamond member, this was the worst experience I've had. I paid $30 more than I would have through TripAdvisor, and I'm questioning my membership. Aren't members supposed to get the best rates? I also paid extra for breakfast even though it was supposed to be included at no additional charge. My first room, 602, hadn't been cleaned: the bed was stripped and there was food on the table. The desk clerk quickly moved me to 607. At least that bed was made, but the bathroom floor looked as if it hadn't been mopped in years. Both rooms were dirty.

The staff were lovely, especially Brandon, who brought a real ray of sunshine to the lobby. The location is good, but the rooms and restaurant don't make me want to return. The available rooms are dated, the bathrooms aren't nice, and the renovation work is poorly done. On top of that, breakfast is a disappointing buffet that costs $15. It should be free, especially given the condition of the rooms.
