Sonesta Select Greenbelt College Park

There were a few things to complain about, but honestly it was a nice stay overall. The owner, I think, was pretty relaxed as long as you weren't rude, and even helped me out on the last day. Maybe that was because I wasn't a nuisance. Thanks to the older gentleman who accommodated me each night when I asked to extend my stay. The younger employees, his sons maybe, were nice too. The downside was some of the other customers. Man, there were some nasty people there. Please be understanding of the staff, who deal with that kind of customer base all the time. They may seem rude off the bat, but once they realize you're kind, they return it. It's not easy dealing with ignorant, rude people.

Traffic from 495 was deafening all night, even if that's not the hotel's fault. The place felt like a La Quinta or Red Roof Inn motel with a lobby, so I'm not sure how it gets to call itself “3 stars.” The rates are high for what's available nearby, and check-in at the service desk took forever. Pool hours were very limited. The hotel was undergoing extensive renovations, with construction debris and paint marks in the elevator. The hallway ice machine didn't work, and parking in the hotel's very empty lot cost extra, even though several construction or commercial vehicles were parked there all the time.

The room was nice and close to everything, but there was no hot water. The sheets felt crunchy, and a king room had only two small pillows. Check-in took two hours. The service didn't seem worth the room price. They block DoorDash and other deliveries, so you have to come downstairs. It felt like a dorm or a low-level prison. Check-in is strictly at 4 unless you pay a fee, but checkout is strictly at 10. There's no microwave, the fridge is super mini, and there's no hair dryer. The deposit is $200, which is hilarious. Breakfast was trash: orange juice in a pitcher, water in a pitcher, bread slices, and a toaster. I can't make this up.

I liked my visit and would stay again. I got a late checkout on my last day without any fuss. The lobby was very nice, and the staff were too. My room was at the back of the complex on the fourth floor. It was super quiet and clean, though I had to walk up four flights. The hotel is conveniently placed in Greenbelt, MD, close to College Park. There was an indoor pool, but I didn't have time to use it. The first-floor hallways had a strong smell of some kind. The restaurant and bar were on site and looked nice.
