The front desk woman seemed to be on something. She kept falling asleep, and I couldn’t understand her. The rooms were dirty and stinky, with sticky floors and stiff carpet. The air kicking on made the smell worse, the bathroom sink was broken in half, and the pool had a film on it.

We only got maid service once during our three-night stay. Nobody told us beforehand that service was every other day, so we went to the front desk to ask why housekeeping hadn’t come. They did give us fresh towels.

The room we eventually got was filthy, with brown stains on the bed and used towels and water bottles left lying around. Our first key card didn’t work, and on our third attempt to get a room, we walked in on a naked man asleep. My partner and I had booked online and waited over 30 minutes to check in. The front desk agent was slurring her words, nodding off, and seemed disoriented and incoherent when it was our turn. When I called customer service to ask for a refund, they said they couldn’t help because I’d booked online. Save your money and avoid this place.

The room was basic and dated, though decently clean, and the bed was comfortable. I travel a lot and don’t go hunting for dust to complain about, but the broken body wash dispenser, with its bottle left on the shower floor, was below standard. I was also disappointed that breakfast was already packed away by 8:30, even though it was supposed to run until 9. That feels early for vacationers who might sleep in. I usually just grab a quick snack to get me through to lunch. We checked in around 6 p.m. for one night after skiing. The lobby was dim, there was no attendant, and we called the hotel and wandered the halls looking for someone, despite having a reservation. After about 10 minutes of waiting and looking for another nearby hotel, a receptionist appeared. When I said we’d been waiting and searching for at least 10 minutes, she basically called me a liar instead of apologizing, saying she hadn’t been away that long. She had. Tired and cold, and with few other hotels nearby, I stayed. Next time I go skiing at Perfect North, I’ll choose somewhere else.

We left immediately after discovering that our key opened Room 203, which was already occupied. At check-in, the woman had first assigned another couple Room 230, even though it was out of order and being renovated, then said she meant 228 and had written the wrong number. I figured mistakes happen. But after she checked us into 203, we took the elevator there, swiped our key, and heard people shouting inside. Back at the desk, she claimed she’d written the wrong number on our keycard and that we were meant to be in Room 206. I told her the key had opened 203. She was rude, only offered a half-hearted apology when confronted, and kept saying, “My hands are tied,” without taking responsibility. Whatever caused this, it’s a serious security issue. If needed, we’ll file a chargeback with our credit card company. If you’re visiting Lawrenceburg/Greendale, stay somewhere else, even if it means camping in a tent.
