I won't be returning to Grandover Resort, and I'd suggest finding somewhere else if you want to be treated like a resort guest. I've visited its spa several times and had been happy before, so my best friend and I booked massages and looked forward to a full spa day. We were told on arrival that we could use all the amenities from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., as on my previous visits. Instead, a woman greeted us with a convenience-store sort of attitude and said we couldn't use the pool until 1:30 because an “event” was taking place. We were also handed a form saying we'd face a hefty fine if we didn't return our robes. Having to pass them across the counter like bowling shoes felt tacky, and made us feel like we were being treated as criminals. Then they gave us one locker to share, walked us to the waiting room, and didn't show us the other amenities. Were we meant to sit in that small room for two hours? We asked for a manager and were told we could speak with the supervisor, the same woman who had put us in the waiting room. When we raised the pool restriction, she repeated that we could go after 1:30. We pressed the issue, and she begrudgingly offered a pass for another day. We'd paid over $400 for the spa day. We walked past the pool at noon and nobody was there. At last we asked how to get to the cafe. Jerry, a lovely man, escorted us. Someone should let him run the place. We spent even more money on a meal we hadn't planned to buy just to have somewhere to sit outside. If the meal had been paid for and we'd been treated with even a little respect, I wouldn't be writing this.

The bar and live music are in just the right spot, and the golf courses are beautiful. I love slipping away to Grandover for a special weekend. The resort is laid out so well, and once you're there, there's no reason to leave before checkout. The food is great too. Always a good trip, thank you!

We enjoyed the stay, though the spa staff seemed to be going through the motions. I came for a girls' weekend mainly for the spa and treatments. The spa areas were clean but dated, the changing spaces were small, and several sections were being maintained. We had to use locker rooms on another floor from the spa lockers. The hotel was clean, the desk staff welcomed us, and the restaurant and lounge had lovely music in the evenings.

The retreat food service and meetings were exceptional as usual, and the front desk team was professional and friendly. Still, this year's February weekend was a letdown after three years of coming here. We'd reserved 19 rooms, but only 16 were ready on check-in day. One “clean” fitted sheet had stains, and the shower conditioner was empty. A couple in our group asked to change rooms the first night because the people next door were drunk, loud, sounded like they were wrestling and throwing things, and knocked saying they had more drinks. Security was called on both nights. The guests were asked to turn their music down, but didn't, and nothing more was done. The room change request was refused. When we asked for a clean fitted sheet, it arrived quickly, but we had to remove the stained one and put on the replacement ourselves. A small travel-size conditioner also came quickly, though the empty shower bottle wasn't replaced. For a resort considered four stars, a lot of this experience fell well short.

I haven't stayed in a room yet, but the brunch buffet was phenomenal. The omelet, gouda grits, and waffle were all delicious, and I always enjoy Grandover's delightful atmosphere. Greensboro has some thought-provoking places to eat and enjoy a bit of pampering. Someday I'll book a room and try the spa too. I appreciate all that Grandover has to offer.
