We got to enjoy the handmade crafts and quilt show by chance, and it was such a fun weekend. There was live music, fresh coffee and pastries, handmade fiddles, guitars and dulcimers, glass blowing, pottery, crafts, and gorgeous quilts. We had lots of family laughs and reminiscing, too. We were at Jesse Stuart Lodge at Greenbo Lake State Park from April 10-12 to celebrate Mom turning 87 on April 4. My two sisters, one brother-in-law, and I hadn’t all gone anywhere together since we married and left home. This is one of Mom’s favorite places to stay, and the lodge didn’t disappoint. The scenery, lobby, and lake views were beautiful, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the rooms were clean, though the mattresses were a bit too firm. Lunch at the lodge restaurant was buffet style. Everything was good, and the catfish at Angler’s Cove was especially delicious. Thanks to the staff for a wonderful stay.

The food at the restaurant was great. I had the catfish dinner, a large and really tasty portion. We also loved the clean green lake, walked the trails, and saw lots of deer. It’s a beautiful place, and we’ll definitely come back, though we may skip staying in the lodge next time. Our room, 204, had a strong mold smell coming from the air conditioner, with spores flying. We used a fan from the car instead, which was much better. I told management, and she gave me a small refund for the inconvenience. Hopefully they’ll replace that air unit soon.

The heron fishing and flying was the highlight for me. We saw lots of little toads, butterflies, and squirrels along the fern valley trail, which was pretty easy and worked well for both little ones and adults. There are a few spots by the lake where smaller kids might need help, but our daughter and her friend managed fine. We walked through the lodge too, though there wasn’t much to see. It looks like a decent place to stay. The staff weren’t very friendly, but I guess you can’t expect much from government employees working a holiday.

A really nice, clean, well-kept campsite. I’d book a site here again.

The place looked tiny on Priceline, but it turned out to be a big resort. Nice room, a patio, beautiful scenery, and hot breakfast. Wish I’d had time to enjoy more of it.
