Embassy Suites by Hilton Greenville Downtown Riverplace

We had a fantastic stay and will be back. The rooms were clean, service was friendly, and the location was perfect. Self parking was easy and reasonably priced. We enjoyed the great food at 'Up On The Roof' and the breakfast buffet, plus the complimentary evening wine, beer, cocktails, and light appetizers.

The evening reception was a nice extra, and the kids had fun in the pool. The location was the main bright spot, though. The room felt worn and uncomfortable, and while it was technically clean, dusty spots and tired-looking seating made it feel otherwise. The sofa was torn in places and looked dirty. The mattress sagged so badly that we slept with our heads at the foot of the bed to avoid feeling tilted. The suite layout was awkward too. Almost half the separate living area was empty kitchen space, with just a tiny counter and mini-fridge, so it felt wasted rather than useful. I didn't bring up the problems during our short visit because I didn't want to spend family time complaining or getting moved around. I sent the feedback privately afterward and was told renovations are planned soon. That's good for future guests, but I'd choose somewhere else if I had the choice. I don't like leaving a negative review, but hope this helps others deciding whether to stay.

Greenville was beautiful, with food and shops within walking distance, the bridge and falls right by the hotel, and tons of parks nearby. We drove to a couple of parks since we figured the kids wouldn't want to walk as far as the adults. The staff made the trip feel magical. Santa had gifted my kids, ages 11 to 3, a weekend here, and I emailed to ask about bakeries so I could have a treat waiting in the room. They gave me several suggestions and mentioned that Christmas might mean the bakeries were closed, which was helpful. I sent iced cookies from a bakery near home instead. The staff put them in our room, added more snacks, and left a note from Santa. The kids thought it was the coolest thing, and we were touched by their kindness. The hotel was modern and beautiful, with a spacious, clean room and a large, nice bathroom. The kids had plenty of room to spread out. There's a paid parking deck, but it wasn't very expensive and we always found a spot. Breakfast was great. The kids liked the waffles and pancakes, and the omelet station seemed popular. If you're a bigger group hoping to sit together, get down early. We're already planning another visit and will absolutely stay here again.

We got as far as halfway from Lake Norman to Greenville before another email came in saying the hotel couldn't accommodate us. It was their fault, they said, but there was no other explanation. They offered one night at the Hampton and then a move to this hotel the next day. We didn't want to change hotels or stay at the Hampton, and there was no other solution beyond an apology. We had to cancel dinner reservations, our tour for the next day, and the stay. Great Christmas present. This began with a December booking meant as a Christmas gift. Snow forced us to change dates, and they still charged us for one night. We rescheduled for March 7-9. My wife called to confirm last week and learned the reservation had been cancelled, so she booked again. A couple of days ago, we got a confirmation email, then another email last night to confirm and check in, and a phone call this morning to confirm. Then, halfway there, we saw the cancellation message. I think they overbooked and we got caught in it. Really, really poor.
