Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Greenwood

The hot tub was filled in, just like the one I booked last week. The ads need updated pictures. Otherwise, everything was okay. I’ll call to check next time before booking.

The TVs were advertised as smart, with Prime, YouTube, and Netflix still showing on screen, but none of the apps worked. Apparently they stopped working two weeks ago. Staff said management was deciding whether it was worth repairing.

The breakfast attendant was the biggest problem for us. I don’t know her name, but she was an older dark-skinned woman. She stared and hovered while we got food, then watched me with a nasty look while I ate and got coffee. When I went to grab fruit at checkout, she scowled until I stared back. My very respectful boy wasn’t doing anything wrong, but she gave him the same looks. I hate to say this in 2025, but maybe it was our skin color, since she smiled, laughed, and was kind to other darker-skinned families. We were just minding our business. It made us uncomfortable and spoiled an otherwise positive stay. We wouldn’t return because of it. The room was clean, parking was easy, the location was great, and the front desk staff were helpful and kind. The pool water seemed clean and was fine for our kid, though the area was in poor shape, with peeling ceiling paint, worn chairs, dirty grout, and a gross water fountain. We were disappointed to find the hot tub was gone. One center nightstand plug didn’t work, and neither the sink nor tub drained well. For families with young kids, the window could be opened wide with no screen or safety stop, leaving a big opening a child could climb through and fall from. Don’t leave children unattended in the room. Aside from the breakfast attendant and those smaller issues, it was a good affordable hotel.

This was an unplanned trip after I got frozen out of my home in northern South Carolina, so I drove away from the worst of the storms. The staff and accommodations were better than I’d hoped. Kudos to Fairfield by Marriot.
