Holiday Inn Express Grover Beach-Pismo Beach Area by IHG

The location worked well, and we enjoyed the complimentary breakfast. We stayed three nights over Martin Luther King weekend at Holiday Inn Express Grover Beach–Pismo Beach, and had a great time. Our room was clean, quiet, and much more spacious than an average hotel room, which was great for two adults and two kids. We liked having a microwave, two sinks, one in the bathroom and one outside it, and a bathtub instead of just a shower. We got in late, but using the mobile app made check-in easy. Derrick helped us when we arrived, and the whole process went smoothly. We’re IHG Platinum members, and everything went well. The front desk staff were so friendly and helpful. Thanks to Derrick, Joseph, Sam, Michelle, and Savannah for making us feel welcome. We’d happily stay here again.

I was there for a work trip, and the noise made the night rough. I got in late and settled in, then around 10:30 p.m., while I was showering, I heard a front door slam. I looked out and realized it was the neighboring room. At 10:45, as I was getting into bed, a group of people came onto the patio next door and slammed the door a few times. I called the front desk at 11, waited until 11:30, then decided to pack up and go to the lobby to ask for a room change. Fortunately, they could move me. I asked for a room with fewer people around and got one on the first floor. There were ants in the bath, but I needed sleep and had already showered in the other room, so I stayed and blocked the spot they were coming from. At 6 a.m., I clearly heard the upstairs guest rolling their bags and slamming the door several times. I’d suggest asking for a third-floor corner unit. I saw another review mentioning spiders, so with the renovation, check everything before unpacking and settling in. I overslept after finally falling asleep and missed the complimentary breakfast. After that night, I’m not sure it would have appealed anyway.

After a nine-hour drive, we expected to arrive to a clean room ready for the night, but that wasn’t what we found. There were hairs in the bathroom and on the sheets, dried urine behind the toilet and on the floor, and the bathroom fixtures, lights over the balcony, showerhead, and tub all looked unclean. The place doesn’t seem to maintain or clean its properties well. The building isn’t handicapped accessible. Its buildings are spread across multiple levels, and you have to drive between them. Breakfast is in the main lobby, but you have to drive and walk a long way to get food, then bring it back to your room because you can’t eat in the lobby. We couldn’t find an ice machine, and there was only one vending machine in our building, on the second floor. It’s three miles from the Pismo pier, which isn’t close at all. Very disappointing after such a long drive.

We were put up here for work in Grover. The price was reasonable, and it’s right off the highway. Staff were friendly and accommodating, and the room size was fine, though the trash containers in the rooms are tiny. Parking isn’t great, and a heads-up, there’s just one entrance around a slight blind corner.
