Country Inn & Suites Gurnee

The attendants were nice, but I won't return. For the price I didn't expect much, but with dated accommodations and small rooms, they could at least be clean. Mine was barely clean, with broken outlet plates, dirty walls, and I stepped on a bug. The elevator permit had expired and the floors were sticky. Breakfast was very basic, and the milk was expired. Disappointing for a Choice Hotel. I should have asked for a discount or refund, but I was too tired to change hotels.

The location was good and the room was decent, but I won't come back. We chose the hotel for the pool, only to find it would be under maintenance for the next few months. That was especially disappointing for the birthday kids. The TV wasn't a smart TV, either. I woke up to yelling and very profane language, which woke my 1 year old, and then marijuana smells came into my room. The towels were dirty. I contacted Priceline.com, and they reached out to the hotel. I was offered a 20% discount, which was something, but I don't think it was nearly enough.

I spent a month here while on military orders and left with a deeply upsetting feeling of distrust. During my last two days, my sunglasses went missing. My mother had given them to me, which made losing them especially painful. It's sad to stay somewhere as military personnel, trusting people you deploy to protect, and feel they've stabbed you in the back by stealing from you. There was other stuff I could have complained about, like a bed that sagged in the middle and the failure to change my sheets or pillowcase after the hotel advertised that it would. I didn't make those things an issue. But stealing from people who risk their lives to protect you is ludicrous.

I booked this place to sleep, not for a vacation, so the pool without a hot tub didn't bother us. Check-in and check-out were easy, and the service was excellent. After staying in hotels all over the country, this is the first time I've slept through the entire night without moving to a couch, the floor, or even my car. The beds are just right for what they're for, sleeping.
