Courtyard by Marriott Chicago Southeast/Hammond

The room was comfortable, with a good mattress, fresh sheets and towels, and the hair dryer, iron, ironing board, extra blankets, and pillows were all there. The heating and air conditioning kept it comfortable, and the hotel was very clean. Housekeeping was especially friendly and clearly does a great job; the front desk staff were welcoming too. We picked the Courtyard by Marriott mainly for its indoor pool, so finding the water ice cold was a real letdown. That kept me from rating it higher. I also paid nearly $12 for a breakfast sandwich that wasn’t worth it. Save the money and walk next door to Cracker Barrel.

On my more recent visit, Joseph tried to check me in using someone else’s name and a different reservation number, even though my own name was clearly on my booking. He also put my phone number on another person’s Marriott Bonvoy account, which left me worried about privacy and account security. Then he tried to give me a room I hadn’t booked or paid for and wouldn’t properly accommodate me. When I asked him to get his manager to sort out the wrong room and reservation, he became rude, then tried to escort me out just because I was standing up for myself and asking for the booking to be handled correctly. Management eventually stepped in, but no paying guest should have to deal with this, especially more than once. The trouble actually started on my first stay in December, when I was overcharged. Joseph told me a refund had been processed, but that wasn’t true. I never got the money back until I escalated the issue to the general manager, and that caused a lot of unnecessary stress. I’m extremely dissatisfied with these experiences at the Courtyard Marriott in Hammond, Indiana. The treatment was unacceptable and made me very uncomfortable. I expect better accountability, customer service, and training from a Marriott property. I can’t recommend this location unless they make significant changes at the front desk.

The hotel is attractive and clean, and I’d definitely recommend this location. Joseph, the young man at the front desk, was kind, helpful, and full of useful information. He really went out of his way to help us.

This was my third stay here, because Joseph at the front desk is so professional. He’s passionate about making sure guests have a great stay and went above and beyond to keep everything running smoothly.
