Value Inn & Suites - Harlingen

The room seemed reasonably clean at first, but the musty smell was strong once we got back later that night. The microwave was old and rusted around the door, and the fridge was unplugged and left open. The toilet seat was cracked and the toilet wasn’t attached properly. The towels were old and rough, so I was glad I’d brought my own. Then I found roaches by the shower and on the wall near the bed, with dead ones on the floor. In the morning there was one on my duffle bag, and I had to check that none were inside it or mixed in with my clothes. The price seemed fair when I booked, but felt way too high once I saw the room. I should have checked the reviews first. First and last time staying there.

The front desk lady was helpful and gave good service, including when I accidentally locked myself out. That’s why I gave the place three stars. I was only looking for a basic room to sleep for one night while visiting from another city, and saw the sign and decided to try it. It cost $75 at the last minute, so maybe booking ahead would have been cheaper. A quick search turned up places with lower prices and higher ratings, and I started wishing I’d picked one of those as soon as I saw the room. The hard springy bed, holes in the wall, and a bug coming out of the door frame made the room feel poorly maintained and cheap. The door was loose and didn’t seem sealed, so even with the dead bolt I felt unsafe. There were some guys walking around, though I couldn’t tell if they were maintenance workers or people living there. I left early the next morning. I wasn’t expecting much and I’m not picky, but I still wish I’d chosen another hotel.

The room was clean and nice, and the bed was soft enough to make for a comfortable rest. The bathrooms were clean too, and you wouldn’t have known other guests were staying in the other vacancies. The manager was courteous when we checked in. I had a nice time at the La Cops Inn with a friend, and I’d stay there again if I get the chance.

The reviews make this place sound better than it is. My room was dusty, dirty, and full of bugs, with wrappers on the floor and a musty odor. It looks like management has done some remodeling, but everything still feels outdated. As someone who reviews places, I don’t want to mislead my followers. Do yourself a favor and book somewhere else. Paying a couple of bucks more can mean a healthier, safer stay.
