La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Harrisburg-Hershey

A snowstorm in January 2025 left the roads icy, and I was too tired to make the three-plus-hour drive home. This place came in clutch: I booked by phone around 2-3 a.m. and got a room quickly. The price was very low for what was offered, and even lower through services like Booking. I had a two queen bed room, in decent shape, though it could use some TLC. I don't recall any odors. The beds were okay but firmer than I like, and sound carried through the walls and ceiling. People opening and closing doors in the morning woke me up. The mini fridge was helpful. The gym was decent, and the pool and hot tub were nice. I didn't have swim trunks, but the water looked clean and clear. I'd recommend staying here.

The pool and hot tub were a welcome amenity, and the beds were comfortable, not too hard. Breakfast was the usual hot spread in the lobby: eggs, sausage links, muffins, and waffles. Service was good and we had no negative experience. It looked recently remodeled, though the rooms lacked some finishing touches. There was no trim around the fire suppressant system, and a few wall repairs hadn't been painted over. Nothing interfered with our stay, but it did make me wonder what had happened.

Breakfast was decent and well stocked, and the staff were amazing. That was the one bright spot in a stay that felt dirty, unsafe, and neglected. The hall floor sagged between the elevator and our room. Inside, there was visible mold, peeling wallpaper held up with staples in places, damp smells, dirty carpet that had us keeping our shoes on, and signs of water damage with bubbling paint and stained walls. The hot tub was broken. A damaged handle at the pool's shallow end felt unsafe, then broke while we were there and the pool was cleared, so we lost access to half the reason we booked. Getting ready for bed made things worse. The bedding had holes, the mattresses had no protective covers, and the furniture was worn out. The fridge didn't get cold, and shower water was barely warm. We found a pill on the bathroom floor when we arrived, tired and ready to shower. That was unacceptable and made me wonder if the room had been cleaned at all. I uploaded photos. I've stayed at many budget hotels, but this place felt forgotten. The good breakfast and staff couldn't make up for the rest of the stay.

Breakfast had good hot food, though there were no bagels. The hallways were clean, but the stairwell carpet needs replacing. The rooms were very nice for the price, and our one-night stay was great overall. Our only real issue was that the in-room charging stations didn't work, so we had to use the wall outlets.
