SpringHill Suites by Marriott Harrisburg Hershey

The lobby and breakfast dining area were beautiful, and the room was spacious and comfy. After our last stay in the Hersey area, this place felt like a luxury. Loved it here!

I booked months ahead and was charged. The week I was meant to travel, my nephew ended up in the hospital. I called to ask about the refund policy and explained I wasn't ready to cancel, and they said I'd get a full refund if I did. I said I'd take the night and call back the next day. When I called again, they confirmed the refund and I cancelled. No cancellation email ever came. A few days later I got a check-in email instead. When I called, they said the reservation was cancelled and the refund was processing. I called seven more times, and each time was told it just needed the manager to push through. Eventually the manager said I wouldn't get the money back because of system changes, and that he couldn't do it even if he wanted to be nice. They never offered new dates or hotel credit. He told me to dispute the charge with my bank. What a scam and a joke of a hotel.

The third room had the same AC problem as the first. Instead of fixing it properly, the thermostat was disconnected, so you had to get down on the floor to use the unit's manual controls. That's only a slight exaggeration. The bench and luggage rack by the window made those controls barely visible. I won't return. At this price, there are much better choices around Harrisburg. I travel for more than 40 weeks a year and value clean, comfortable, consistent, functional rooms. This place failed on all of that. The property looks fine on the surface, but the rooms are in varying states of disrepair, and staff support left plenty to be desired. My first room wouldn't cool below 78 degrees when it was 83 outside. The shower door was misaligned and left a two inch gap that flooded the floor. I messaged maintenance that night to ask for the AC and shower to be fixed the next day. They didn't answer until the morning, then confirmed it would be handled. Twelve hours later, nothing had been done. The front desk knew nothing about the issue. They offered a room change, but when I got the key, the new room was already occupied. Back at the desk, as a solo traveler, I was assigned a third room and asked whether a double would be okay at the same rate. That made no sense when I'd booked a king. The whole thing felt like a clown show.

The staff were nice, and I understand it was a busy weekend, but $250/night left me expecting more. The bathroom door rolled away and had no way to latch shut. That morning there was no hot water anyway, so I couldn't shower. The room shared a wall with the elevator shaft, and clunks and motor noise kept me awake all night. I know there's not much to be done about that. When we arrived, I also found a dime sized hole in the bathroom sink. Rather than move us to another room, the front desk sent maintenance to replace the sink while we were trying to get dressed for dinner. Maintenance was at least super nice.
