Best Western Hartford Hotel & Suites

I had a comfortable stay and would come back. The rooms were clean and well maintained, and the front desk staff were friendly and gave me good suggestions for places to visit and eat while I was on vacation. Breakfast was good, with plenty of choices including omelets and sausages. It's about 10-15 minutes from downtown Hartford. There were a few drawbacks. The toilet sits under the counter by the sink, so the overhang kept me from lifting both seats. The walls are thin enough that I could hear a couple arguing next door on my first night. Weed smoke from someone on the second floor also filled the whole hallway. That's not really the hotel's fault, but I wish people were more considerate.

We booked on 11/20 and paid more than $1,200 cash for seven days. On the third day our plans changed, so I told the front desk we were leaving that day instead of staying all seven. The manager said the best he could do was let us use the other four days sometime in the future because the hotel doesn't offer refunds. Paying cash was a big mistake, and I'm still shocked. We'd already killed three cockroaches when we arrived. On D2, asking for a couple more towels seemed like a big deal. That day we were getting ready to leave, and when housekeeping knocked I asked if they could come back in ten minutes. She smiled and said yes, but when we returned a few hours later, the room hadn't been cleaned. I'm curious if anyone else has had trouble leaving without being reimbursed for the diesel. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anybody.

Breakfast was fairly good, but I wouldn't recommend this hotel otherwise. There were several broken things in our room, including the hair dryer and phone, and nobody offered a good fix. During our Christmas stay near family, staff didn't explain that room cleaning was request only on some days, so we had to get our own towels for two days. We asked after Christmas and still weren't told it would be request only the next day too, unless they simply chose not to come. When we asked, there were no accessibility features for my elderly mother, such as a traction bath mat. The price felt too high for what we got. I booked ahead, but when we arrived there were several Christmas rate specials that staff said weren't available to me.

The staff did make it right by moving us to another room, but it was still a rough start. The area didn't feel very nice, with lots of people hanging out along the road out front. Our beds looked freshly made, yet the TV stand had old room keys on it. The bathroom wasn't clean, the soap had been used, and the garbage bags were already full of bloody tissues and other trash. When I picked up my purse from the TV stand, I saw more than 30 tiny baby spiders all over the cabinet, and some were in my purse. The new room looked and smelled clean, but the whole experience wasn't great.
