Homewood Suites by Hilton Hartford Downtown

For the price, I expected a nicer room. The cooktop looked like it might be in disrepair, and there were no extra pillows or blankets. Still, it was generally a positive stay, and everything was clean and well maintained. The location was great, easily the best feature, though some of the details fell short.

We stayed a week, and I’d say go there only if it’s the last hotel available. The room was dusty and dirty, with an old, very dirty carpet and antique furniture. The mattress was so uncomfortable it offered no back support. Who still uses a spring mattress? Customer service was horrible too, and I had to ask every day for the room to be cleaned. Don’t choose this if you want a clean, nice hotel, and don’t trust the online photos because the place looks nothing like them.

They offer breakfast and happy hour at no charge, and the room was clean with all the amenities I expected. Mine had a full kitchen and two bathrooms. The rooms are much larger than at other comparable hotels I’ve stayed in, so this has been an excellent stay.

The location is great, right downtown and very close to Union Station. Rooms are clean and neat, and the food tastes good. They also give you free bottled water during your stay. The only real issue is the 24/7 convenience store: it has very few items and charges a lot for simple things. A pint of beer costs $6, while I can get six for $10 outside. Otherwise, a great hotel for the budget.
