Pelham on Earle

The location at Pelham on Earle in West Harwich was convenient, close to a public beach and other attractions, but our four-night August 2025 stay cost over $600 a night and left me feeling abused and taken advantage of. The staff tried their best, though I felt sorry for them having to please guests in what seemed like a glorified roadside motel. Our first night, the window air conditioner rattled every 20-30 minutes and kept waking us. It took complaints to four staff members the next day before it was fixed. The coffee pot worked only now and then. When I asked for a replacement, I was told it worked fine. The bedroom was small, and so was the bathroom, which had room for a toilet and a shower over the tub. The sink was in the bedroom. There was no grab bar to help getting in and out of the tub, no hook for a face cloth or wet bathing suit, just one small towel rack, and no hook on the back of the door for a garment. There wasn’t a chair or a bedside table or shelf for a glass of water, phone, or watch. Breakfast was mediocre at best. I asked for a couple slices of whole wheat toast and was told it would be $1 per slice. That wasn’t a joke. There was no toaster in the kitchen, so the cook grilled it, and the bread came soaked in oil, grease, lard, or some combination. It was nearly inedible, and I was charged $2.14 for it.

The room itself was clean and attractive, and we liked the short walk to the beach. But Room 27 was beside the restaurant, and the patio was noisy and offered little privacy. Its view was limited by an extended wall, while people ate at high-top tables on the grass right in front of our room morning and night. We’d hoped to sit outside to relax and read, but couldn’t.

A lovely place with clean rooms, great staff, and a spot close to the beach.

The grounds and rooms are lovely, and there’s a nice restaurant and bar right beside the pool. It’s a beautiful spot very close to a great little beach. We stayed two nights, though, and the floors were sandy throughout because the rooms weren’t vacuumed each day. They also didn’t replenish the bottled water or Keurigs.
