Days Inn & Suites by Wyndham Havelock

The room smelled musty, the beds squeaked and had stains, and the shower was really nasty. When it was time to check out, nobody was at the desk. We rang the bell several times and waited, but no one came to help.

The only good thing was the location, not too far from the beach. I won’t stay here again. The manager was rude, the pool wasn’t open, and the breakfast room shown in the pictures didn’t serve breakfast. What he called breakfast was coffee or juice and a snack bar. We checked out the next day without getting back the $50 deposit charged for each room. The manager also threatened to charge for a washcloth after seeing red cupcake icing on it. I’d used it to clean my great-grandson’s face after he ate, and was bringing dirty towels and washcloths to the desk to ask for fresh ones. I told the manager he was kidding, and said he could give me my money back and never see my family again. He then said it was okay, but didn’t offer the money back. We went on with our day and didn’t let him ruin it. We arrived July 3, excited for the holiday, and the manager’s daughter checked us in. She was friendly and nice. My grandson and his family had driven down with us and planned to join us at the beach after check-in. They came inside to get out of the heat while waiting, and we told the manager they weren’t staying. He made a big deal of it, so my grandson got a room rather than stand in the hallway while we took our things to ours. I don’t recommend this hotel. The pictures are fake, in my opinion, and it doesn’t deserve even the one star required to post this.

We were pleasantly surprised by how much the room had for the price: a king bed, loveseat, desk and rolling chair, fridge, microwave, and one-cup coffee maker. It was clean, and the pillows were soft. There was also plenty of parking right by the doors, with good lighting at night. The beach is close, and there are lots of places to grab coffee in the morning and laid-back restaurants nearby. Check-in took less than five minutes, and checkout was easy too. They text you so you can tell them when you’re leaving, instead of having someone knock before you’re ready to go. The location and service are why I gave it five stars.

The bed was surprisingly comfortable, which helped when the room itself looked pretty worn, with peeling spots and stained towels and bedcovers. There was something in the corner that we hoped was droppings. Still, the TV was huge, the A/C worked great, and the staff were really friendly. We got upgraded to a nicer room after discovering someone was already staying in the one we’d been given. The staff dealt with that quickly. Would I stay again? Maybe.
