El Rancho Inn Hawthorne

The shower had more hair in it than I’ve ever seen in my life, and the room was the nastiest I’ve ever experienced. The location isn’t good either. I hate laziness, but even at a cheap place, could they at least give me a blanket? One that costs $10 for the guests? It’s good value for a homeless person, I guess, but I’d rather sleep in my car. Why one star? The people running this hotel seem to be in it for the money and hate the hospitality business. Unfortunately, this happened to me.

I needed a room suddenly and found this place at short notice. A room was ready right away, and it was generally clean, though it could use some updating. The door handle was VERY hard to open and should be fixed ASAP. I kept hearing popping noises from a pipe in the wall, kind of irritating when trying to sleep. There may be some plumbing issues. Otherwise the room was okay, but I wouldn’t choose it for a long stay, maybe just a night or two at most.

For a cheap, affordable rate, this place is fine, but it’s in rough condition. If you’re staying temporarily, they may start adding random upcharges. They also expect you to pre-clean the room so they don’t have to do as much. Housekeeping will come into your room early while you’re asleep and wake you up.

It’s a small hotel, very clean and run by a nice family. We stayed over the 4th of July weekend and were pleased. They were accommodating when they moved us into a bigger room and set up a fold-out bed for my son. It’s close to the beach, though it could use a pool. We’d definitely stay again.
