The farm animals were fun to have around, and breakfast was modest but had plenty for us: fresh pastries, good cheese, and waffles with strawberries. Our room was old and the bathroom was shared, though everything was very clean and the price was fair. The staff were kind, and we were welcomed with a complimentary glass of tap house wine that was almost ridiculously good. The chef served delicious food, much of it sourced from the farm and butchered and prepared there. It felt like fine dining at a fair price, and I could imagine it earning a Michelin star as the staff gain more experience. As a Swedish international, I also appreciated the place's progressive feel, a refreshing oasis in otherwise somewhat conservative Montana without making a big show of it. We missed the drag brunch festival by just one day.

Dinner was a feast. We tried nearly everything on the menu, including pork ribs, half a chicken, and beef, and it was all cooked well and tasted just right. Will made our welcome drink with a huge smile, which was such a warm greeting so far from home. Earlier, Paul greeted us cheerfully, showed us to our clean, nicely designed three-bedroom suite, and helped with every request from our family, including a special laundry request after nearly two weeks of traveling around the states. The living room was a comfortable place for us all to spend time together. Huge thanks to Paul, Jared, and their dedicated team for the hospitality.

The farm animals were the highlight for our kids, who stayed happy and entertained the whole time. We also loved the fresh homemade meals at Maison, both breakfast and dinner, and they handled our dietary needs. This was my second stay, and each visit has felt special and unique. The staff were understanding and thoughtful about our specific needs, and never made us feel like we were causing trouble. The beds were incredibly comfortable. I'm a light sleeper, so I woke a couple times to train noises or sounds from the old house, but the beds and peaceful farm setting made up for that. We've already booked a third visit!

I asked whether the place was haunted, and the owner happily played along with my excitement and gave me a little history of the house. I love old, possibly haunted buildings, so I appreciated that. Check-in was quick, with a glass of wine offered on arrival, and the staff were really friendly. Our room was clean and the bed was super comfortable. The bathroom is shared, but we had the whole wing to ourselves, so it wasn't an issue. They stocked it with everything from body wash to premium shampoo and conditioner. I also enjoyed reading a Neil Gaiman novel from the excellent library while having my wine on the patio. We needed to leave at 2am, and they were very happy to accommodate us.

We went for goat yoga and then stayed on the patio for Sunday brunch. The patio is wonderful, and I'd gladly return for brunch. I'm also considering a little staycation there. It's a fantastic spot for Helena, with a historic building and a working farm that feels pastoral and picturesque. Go here. Period.
