EDIT: Not long after I got home, I suddenly had a bunch of the same little roaches in my house, the kind they said “don't exist” in my room 👍🏻 I’d been ready to give this hotel a decent review. I saw two roaches, but I’m from Florida, so I had a bed and shower and the room was otherwise clean. Then they charged me half my deposit for “stains” on a pillow, even though I kept my hair covered while sleeping and never washed it. Meanwhile the sheets already had brown stains. When I mentioned the roaches, they said I was lying.

On July 2nd I was racially profiled here. I’d driven five hours for my grandmother’s homecoming service, and my sister had arranged for us to meet at this MOTEL. My sisters and I changed into our funeral clothes, carried our bags back to our cars, and waited for another sister to pick up our mother. Around 10:30 a.m., two police cars came into the parking lot. After a minute or so, the officers approached and asked if we belonged there. Hotel staff hadn’t questioned us before calling the police. I saw both employees watching us, then a female worker waved me over to the office. She immediately asked for my ID and which room I was in. I explained I had no room and wasn’t staying there, that we were in town for a funeral and needed to change and wait for the rest of the family. She didn’t accept that and kept insisting on my ID and my family’s room number. I answered and gave her the number, then she dismissed me. It was appalling to be judged like that and shown no compassion, empathy, or understanding after explaining we were there for a funeral. They assumed I was there for some other reason without asking for clarification first. I’m a United States Veteran. My family and I had to go to the funeral heartbroken and now traumatized.

The pillows were filthy, so they’d doubled up the pillowcases to cover it. The mattress had a case on it, which is good for preventing bed bugs, but the mattresses still need replacing. Sheets, towels, and shower curtain all had stains and need bleaching. I checked the drawers even though I didn’t use them, and found crumbs and dirt inside. I could have chosen somewhere else, but work arranged the RSVP and it was 1 a.m. after a three-hour drive. It was just okay for an emergency last resort, not for a planned trip. They wanted a deposit too, then made it difficult to get a receipt proving the refund. At 9 a.m. I had to push for one, even though they knew I was in a hurry to get to work on time. I came back during a short break after 11, demanded the receipt, and they gave it to me in under a minute. Why make me fight for it at 9? The camera was right by my door, and there were two men in the office, so I blocked the door. Maybe I was being paranoid, but I was a woman alone, three hours from home and real civilization.
