Hampton Inn Hernando

Very disappointed. The hotel is shut down but still accepts reservations and money, and there’s no signage outside at all. :-/

The staff were all really nice, and the complimentary breakfast was good. The room itself was nice, but cleanliness let it down: there was lots of hair on the bathroom floor, it needed a proper scrub, and the comforter had several large stains. I’d have given five stars if the room had been clean.

A stain or mess on the mattress in the second room made me leave. I couldn’t tell whether it was blood, vomit, or ketchup, but finding it beside where you lay your head was repulsive and left me wondering what else wasn’t cleaned. The guest services team understood and refunded my stay, which is why I’m giving more than one star. We’d been looking forward to visiting friends who recently moved to Hernando, and this was the closest hotel. The exterior looked great, our digital key worked right away, and the first room smelled strongly of cigarettes and Lysol. The front desk apologized and moved us to another room, where the smell was fine, before I checked the mattress and found the mess.

We’d been staying here for almost two weeks after a death in our immediate family, and the hotel has deteriorated since our earlier visits. The carpets on all three floors had large bleached spots, and wallpaper was peeling on each floor. In the room, furniture and surfaces were very dusty, with dust balls on the bathroom floor. I found blood on my pillowcase the first night and on a sheet the next night. The sink had no stopper at first, though one was added when we asked. Some washcloths were so worn you could see through them, and we had to request replacements and clean towels. The towel holder fell off the wall three times before it was finally secured. Beds were supposed to be made every other day, but they weren’t.
