Candlewood Suites Herndon by IHG

Essam at the front desk was especially friendly and helped me sort out several issues during check-in. The staff overall were extremely nice. My room at Candlewood Suites Washington Dulles was clean, comfortable, and had all the amenities I could ask for. For a reasonable price, it was an above-average stay, and I'd definitely return.

We had an unplanned overnight with colleagues and couldn't find any hotels with vacancies. When I called, the night shift was incredibly helpful and made sure we were taken care of. Fssam, Victor, Gabrielle, and Sam went above and beyond to get us rooms and settled for the unexpected stay.

At $184 a night, plus the cost of hotel transportation, I wouldn't stay here again. My room was never serviced, my key quit working the morning I checked out, and I had to go back to the front desk. Wi-Fi was slow and unreliable, and the fitness center ceiling was so low I hit my head on the treadmill. It's attached to the laundry room with no separation, so it gets warm and uncomfortable. The biggest problem was that there was no airport shuttle. The IHG app made it confusing, as if one might be available, but I was told to take a $45 Uber. There's no breakfast either. The place seems aimed at long stays: the parking lot was full, though I rarely saw people, and there are very few food options nearby, so I walked about a mile and a half each night. The hotel felt like a poor value, with better options nearby.

For a two-week stay, I thought this was a good value and would recommend it, even though I usually choose higher-end hotels and didn't want to spend $250 a night. The room was a decent size with an adequate kitchenette, essential supplies, and a large refrigerator. There was a good fitness center, complimentary coffee, free laundry and parking, easy access to the Dulles toll road, and very friendly staff. It isn't luxurious and felt a bit worn. The room was dark, the office chair uncomfortable, the toilet clogged easily, and the AC was loud and left a bad smell. Wi-Fi was slow at times.
