I’d stay here again. The staff were polite and on the ball, and when I had a small shower maintenance issue, a guy came and fixed it right away. I was traveling for work with my old black Labrador after dropping off the last puppies on my route, and I’d started feeling very headache-y. I don’t stay in chains, so I called around and was glad this place accepted pets and had a room for three nights. I needed the time off. The showers were awkward because I’m short, can’t reach the shower head, and it faces the WALL. The TV remote works, but the cable box sits so high above and slightly behind the TV that the signal won’t reach from the bed or even beside it. I could turn the TV on and adjust the volume, but to change channels I had to get up, go under the TV, and aim the remote at the back of the box. Good thing I didn’t really want to watch TV, lol. I think a nearby room may be a smoking room, since I smelled cigarette and weed smoke in the early mornings and evenings. They allow pets, but for dog walks use the dirt patch across the street from the office, not the back area, which is full of sand spurs. And sorry about all the dog hair, guys.

Marlene and George made our one-night stay a very positive experience. They went out of their way to help us several times and were attentive, kind, professional, and respectful. When a man who seemed clearly inebriated came onto the property, they were right there and had him removed immediately. They made us feel welcome, and I wish every business had customer service like theirs. I highly recommend staying here for that reason alone. Thanks again to Marlene and George for their work and integrity. The location is close to things you might need to buy, and there are decent food options nearby. The rooms are small, but clean and neat, with a small refrigerator and microwave. My review is 90% about the truly exceptional service from the staff.

I’ve been staying here for over 20 years, and the place has come a long way. The new staff are helpful, the remodeled rooms and floors are amazing, everything is clean, and the price is decent. Security is a nice addition, including screening potential guests before renting. There’s easy access to gas, food, shopping, and places you can walk to. Upgrades are continuing, and I’d stay again. The ugly abandoned house visible from the hotel looks haunted, though, and they really need to cover it with a fence. I’d also love a coffee maker in the rooms and a pastry in the lobby in the morning. Update: Management has improved, but the rooms are getting shabby. The owner should invest in new towels, bedspreads, matching drapes, toilets, shower fixtures, and bathroom doors, and fix the weathering on the front door. Maybe add desert pictures on the walls, paint the headboard to match the nightstand and table, polish the wood floors, and use an industrial fragrance spray. A coffee pot in the room and free coffee and pastries in the lobby from 6 to 9 a.m. would be nice too. Security could be better with fencing and tarps, planted trees, and ashtrays inside and out. Raise the deposit to $100 on a credit card, require current tags and current ID, and have guests sign in and pay a $5 parking fee if they visit after 10 p.m. Be pickier about who you rent to. Employees should wear company shirts with their names and job titles. Add plants, desert flowers, and gravel to the bare spots, and choose welcoming colors that don’t look scary and cheap. Rent rooms for $99 a night. It’s still the cheapest, and you’ll attract decent guests. Add four new pillows to each bed and door mats.

I want to thank Alex and Maria for the way they treat people. Their professionalism, hard work, dedication, love, and kindness are hard to find. They’ve made this place comfortable and accommodating. I recommend it to anyone looking for a clean, nice, safe hotel. Thank you both for your integrity and the effort you put in for the people who stay at high desert in.

The rooms look nice after the hotel’s renovations, but they’re very small. Some rooms allow smoking, and even the non-smoking rooms smell like smoke from elsewhere in the hotel. They also wanted an extra $50 cash deposit, on top of already having my credit card number. With a $90 room and that added deposit, I decided not to stay. It wasn’t worth it.
