The host is generous, thoughtful, and considerate, and the garden is lovely. This spacious, well-equipped place has a quiet location and quirky decor that gives it character. I’d highly recommend it. If we’re back in Hilo, we’ll do our best to stay here again.

Colleen (Kawehi) made us feel so at ease. My husband and I loved the open-air feel, cozy furniture, and stained glass at Hale Kawehi. The walk to downtown Hilo and the ocean was beautiful. We’re already looking forward to coming back.

Kawehi is a wonderful host, and the place is a great base for exploring all the interesting things around Hilo. We’ve stayed with her each November for the past five years, and clearly like it a lot. It’s spacious, comfortable, and well equipped, a perfect anti-condo.

My wife and I stayed at Hale Kawehi a few years before we moved to Hawai'i. The beautiful place and our ongoing connection with Kawehi had a lot to do with our decision to move here and our choice of where to live. Now we’re just a block away, and we’ve recommended her guesthouse to friends visiting us.
