We had such a relaxing stay, from the wonderful massage and spa to dinner at River House restaurant, where the food was delicious and felt elegant. The staff and accommodations were great, and a lovely ice decanter waiting in our room or villa was a thoughtful touch. A great place to unwind.

The only drawback for some may be the 45-minute drive from the airport. For me, that distance helps preserve Palmetto Bluff's secluded setting across its 23,000 acres. The property has beautiful private residences and down-to-earth people, and walking around the grounds was a pleasure. The hospitality and luxury also exceeded what I expected, though photos can’t quite capture the place. I’d love to find my way back.

We’re here for Spring/Easter break 2026, a family of four with two young boys, and this stay at Montage Palmetto Bluff has been a letdown. We’ve stayed at plenty of luxury resorts and often return to favorites such as Sea Island (GA), The Breakers (Palm Beach), Banyan Tree Mayakoba, and Kiawah Island. Given the reputation and $1,500 a night price, we expected service, organization, and competence on a similar five-star level. Staff have been polite and seem to be trying, but the attentiveness and smooth service haven’t matched that expectation. After a long drive today, the boys wanted to hit golf balls, so I asked the concierge where they could practice. We were sent to the May River course, which was closed when we got there, with no warning or alternative. We called the Cross River course next, but they wouldn’t let the children use the practice area or putting green without a tee time. It was Tuesday at 4 pm, and they were just kids hoping to enjoy their vacation. That lack of flexibility for junior guests was shocking and disappointing. For a resort at this price and level, I expected more communication and thoughtfulness centered on guests. This visit has fallen far short, and we wouldn’t consider coming back.

Getting around the property is easy, with bikes to use and golf cart shuttles if you’d rather not walk or ride. Hush on the Bluff is a standout speakeasy, especially if you like live music, and the outdoor pizza spot is a fun addition. There’s a good range of dining and activities, comfortable rooms, and attentive staff. Pools do get crowded, just so you know. The location is the main drawback if you don’t have a car, since rideshares are limited. Plan ahead, though the hotel’s list of drivers for airport transfers and nearby trips is helpful.

Our cottage became a peaceful retreat, with slow mornings and coffee by the lake. We watched herons glide across the water, turtles in the sun, and even alligators passing through. It felt like a nature preserve, while still having modern comforts. We also enjoyed biking the scenic paths and grounds, and Erik checked out fishing gear and spent afternoons casting in the ponds. He caught fish, which made it even more memorable. For our company event of more than 200 people, the resort handled everything smoothly. The conference spaces were elegant and well equipped, service was seamless, and moving between meetings and social events felt easy. It’s unusual to find a place that manages a large gathering while still feeling personal. We stayed four nights, and Charlie warmly welcomed us and showed us around our private lakeview cottage, carefully explaining its features. Breakfast at Octagon was a lovely start to the day, and we enjoyed evening hospitality and cocktails in Somerset Chapel. A hosted group dinner at Moreland Landing was another highlight, with a setting, food, and atmosphere that captured the region. There’s an easy, unhurried pace here, whether you’re under the mossy oaks on a bike, fishing in the afternoon, or having drinks with new friends. It feels luxurious without being pretentious, and connected to its surroundings. We left refreshed and already hoping to return. Montage Palmetto Bluff stays with you after you leave.
