Baymont Inn & Suites by Wyndham

The room was spotless and the bed was really comfortable. The owner's daughter was at the front desk when we arrived, and she was so sweet and great with customers. We were heading back to California and this was our first hotel stop. Such an excellent stay, we'll definitely come back on another trip. Thank you for making it feel perfect!

We checked in sometime between 3:30 and 4:30 in the morning after driving all night, so we were too tired to inspect the room before lying down. There was a faint rotten meat smell between the bed and nightstand, and it was worse by morning. The shower had pubic hair stuck to the wall, parts of the room were broken, and a patched section of shower wall looked neither clean nor attractive. The bed was somewhat comfortable, but the place overall felt like it was falling apart, from the unfinished wall repairs in the lobby to the poor upkeep. My wife only wanted to tell the owner or manager the room was dirty, not ask for a refund, but she was told it had been cleaned personally. The smell was obvious, though. At $150 a night, I expected far more than what felt like a $59 room. I should have taken the lobby as a warning.

There's a Maverick gas station across the street, along with a Chinese buffet and McDonald's, and it's an easy spot to reach from the highway. The front desk staff were friendly, check-in was quick, military discounts are available with ID, and there was plenty of parking. I picked a downstairs room in the side building, under a light and visible from the lobby, since the front lot was dark. It was spacious and clean, if very dated, with a desk and chair, dresser, mirror, closet and hangers, ironing board and iron. The AC wasn't on when I arrived, so I had to turn it on myself. The bed was comfortable, with lots of pillows, and the white bedding and towels were clean. The bathroom had the tub and toilet, while the sink was just inside the door. The lobby had native decor, and there was an indoor pool and jacuzzi past the desk, plus a laundry room with several washers and dryers. Breakfast is free, with plenty of food and drink choices, but nothing hot is cooked for you. You can make waffles or microwave packaged items such as sausage, egg and cheese biscuits. The dining room was clean, with tables and chairs, and could be reached from the lobby or the hall. Big carts by the front door made moving luggage easier, and checkout by phone was simple. I’d stay again, even though the rooms could use an update.

We arrived after a two day drive and went down to the hot tub to relax, but the manager watched us closely the whole time until another woman came in to swim. The front desk experience wasn't much better: after ringing the bell and waiting, I met an unfriendly staff member who gave my family a hard time about our well trained heeler, which weighed over the 35 pound limit despite the website saying “pet friendly.” She also complained that a replacement door key cost her $2. The room was filthy when we arrived. We offered to clean it, but a drop of the dog's water turned the towel we used black. We'd asked for a broom at the start and later again, and had a do not disturb sign up, yet the manager or someone entered to inspect our belongings and left the door open. I'm worried they'll call the room trashed and charge the card. The driveways are awkward, either through an old gas station or down a long drive. I wouldn't recommend staying unless it's a night when there's truly nowhere else in town.
