Holiday Inn Express & Suites Montpelier by IHG

The indoor pool and gym were nice, and there’s a local restaurant plus two small gas stations nearby. Rooms come with a fridge, microwave, and coffee maker, and the beds were comfortable, not too firm. Staff were friendly and professional, and breakfast had a decent selection and good coffee. Pets are allowed for $75 a night. A pleasant place to stay, and I’d recommend it.

With six of us traveling, we were given a room that smelled like marijuana. The only other available suite smelled foul, had no towels, a dirty shower, and mildew on the floor tile by the entrance. I was promised a credit for the first night and told the room would be cleaned while we were out, but it wasn’t cleaned and no credit appeared. Instead, I was charged twice, both times $40 above the quoted price and the amount shown in the app. When I raised issues at the desk, they left notes for management. I got one voicemail about the duplicate charge, but nothing about the room or promised credit. I contacted IHG Guest Relations and was told the hotel had to handle it. Three days later, Loki called, refused the credit, and said corporate had to deal with it. Corporate then said the local hotel was responsible. The room itself was in bad shape, and the breakfast area was disgusting and never cleaned. The food was poorly prepared, too. We had booked three nights but had to find other places for showers and for the kids to sleep because the beds and pillows smelled terrible, and the bedding wasn’t replaced as requested. Loki’s customer service was terrible, and guest relations was subpar. The whole stay was unacceptable. It felt like management takes advantage of having few options for travelers with kids, especially larger families.

I booked a night while passing through and just needed some sleep. It was quiet and pleasant, and breakfast was included.

The lobby now feels welcoming and modern, with comfortable spots to sit and relax or get a little work done. We stayed recently at the Holiday Inn Express in Montpelier, Ohio, and liked the updated common areas. The breakfast room was bright and clean, with a nice range of fresh choices. The renovations really improved the feel of the place. I’d recommend staying here.
