The king bed was firm but comfortable, and the room looked clean and modern without being overdone. It still had an old-school motel feel underneath the updates. The air conditioner seemed like an older model, and the lighting could use an upgrade. My job covered the bill, so I can’t really judge how the price compares.

The room was mostly clean, though there was a candy-green stain around the room and on the sheets, maybe left by someone traveling with a child. The parking lot stayed noisy much of the night, and our room faced the highway with very little sound insulation. Inside, the no-smoking sign had been torn off the door and there was a strong, fresh marijuana smell. I don’t mind that myself, but some guests might. At check-in, I felt the clerk hadn’t given me the best rate and might have kept some of the cash I paid. Fine for a night or two, but I’d look elsewhere for a longer stay.

The staff were friendly, helpful, and quick to move me when problems came up. My first room was cold, so I switched rooms, then the TV in the second room developed a fuzzy picture after working for a few days. Having to move all my things twice was a hassle, which is why I gave it four stars. I’d planned on one night and stayed a week, though, and the low price helped. It’s pet-friendly with no extra charge, and the rooms have some modern touches like mid-sized flat-screen TVs, granite counters, and updated sinks and faucets. There’s hot fresh coffee with flavored creamers in the office all day and night. I’d recommend it as a lower-cost option compared with pricier hotels.

I wouldn’t suggest staying here with kids or family, or if you have any dignity. The $42 a night made it tolerable, but this was the worst Red Roof Inn I’ve tried. We’d stayed here about eight years ago and liked it then, so I don’t know what changed. The bottom-floor rooms, including 113, were dingy, badly outdated, and awful. I politely asked to move and got a free upgrade to an “executive” room upstairs. It was somewhat updated, but the paint job was still terrible and the mattresses sagged in the middle. The place needs professional work inside and a thorough scrub outside.
