White Pines Inn & Suites

The bathroom smelled like pee, the floors were dirty, and the manager was rude. The pool and hot tub are broken and closed while I’m staying here. Check-in isn’t until 4, and late checkout at 2 instead of noon costs another $30. For the price, the quality of everything is poor. I wouldn’t recommend it.

The front desk gentleman did the best he could with what he had to work with. The place is thankfully being renovated, since a few things in our room weren’t working. The hot tub was out for our whole stay, and although the pool was open, the heater wasn’t running all the time, so the water was colder than we liked. Breakfast wasn’t very good, so we ate elsewhere.

We mainly booked for the hot tub and free breakfast, but the hot tub was out of order. From the reviews, that seems to happen a lot. Breakfast was pretty limited: waffles, cereal, and biscuits and gravy, with no fruit or hot options. The room was okay but worn, with a tub whose glaze had worn away, a stained pull-out couch, a broken office chair, and a coffee maker that didn’t work. I at least hoped for a nice bath if the hot tub was down. We drink coffee in the morning, but the front desk didn’t try to help with the broken machine. A cleaning lady kindly brought another one, but it didn’t work either. When someone sat in the chair, it went down to the floor. They did a good job making the hotel look better than it was.

On our first trip to Michigan, we stayed at three hotels in four days, and this was the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at. The patio was the only decent thing. The website didn’t mention the pool was closed, and I’d picked the place partly for my two teenagers to use it. At check-in we were told breakfast ran from 7 to 10. We came down at 9:10, but breakfast was closed, even though there was a sign showing those hours. The new front desk lady said no, it was 6 to 9.
