Riverfront Treetop Bungalow

We’ve already stayed twice and are planning a third visit. There’s a lot nearby to see, plus free kayaking and fishing. The place is a little rustic, which adds to the fun, and the rental is fully furnished with a complete kitchen. There’s also a gift shop and local artisan shop downstairs, and a food counter in the main building if you don’t want to cook. The staff are friendly and helpful when needed. Once the employees leave and the gate is locked for the day, you can roam the compound freely. The fishing right off the docks is great.

The place was roomier inside than I expected and had pretty much everything we needed. We had a great time renting a pontoon and going snorkeling and scalloping, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It’s a great spot for a staycation, and we’ll definitely be back. My one regret is that we ran out of time before trying the diner, even though the food smelled wonderful. A couple of small things could be better: there was no propane for the outdoor grill when we planned to cook, the refrigerator didn’t work very well though the freezer was fine, and the $75 cleaning fee felt high given how dusty the unit was, especially around the fan light globes.

We arrived to find no signs or instructions about parking, everything closed, and no office where we could get help. The unit was stiflingly hot and stuffy when we opened the door. We tried lowering the AC, but a sign by the controls said to keep it at 80°. We live in Florida, and that temperature upstairs was not acceptable or livable. The internet and TV also didn’t work. When we called the listed numbers, we got a text saying someone would be back at 7 a.m. the next morning. We weren’t comfortable staying somewhere where the manager wouldn’t answer a call, especially if a more serious issue came up. One snack bag in the kitchen had chew marks that looked like they might be from roaches or rodents. I texted the manager that we couldn’t stay because of the broken amenities and unbearable heat. She said she would refund 50% through Booking.com. We left and found reputable accommodations that night after this terrible experience.

The place has a great feel and a lovely location, right above two shops with some really cool stuff. Restaurants of all kinds are only minutes away, and the included kayaks get you to the bay in just a few strokes. Definitely recommend.
