Relax Inn and Suites Hope

I was worn out and the online pictures made this seem like a decent deal, so I stopped. The outside looked okay, and with the sheriff's office across the street I thought it might be a good sign. The man in the office was nice, too. But the room was shocking. The door was damaged and didn't have a proper lock. Its switch wouldn't turn on the light, and the light over the sink flickered badly. The bathroom was clean but looked gross. There were holes in the carpet and burn holes in the blankets. I went straight to bed without getting under them, then left early the next morning because I just wanted to get out. While driving, my wrist started itching, and I realized bedbugs had bitten me. Luckily it wasn't bad. I checked everything from the room again and thankfully didn't find any bugs. Don't stay here. The one star is only because the review form requires a rating. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!

I was stranded in Hope after my truck broke down, and this was a disgusting place to end up. The beds had stained mattresses with no covers, and the sheets and blankets were stained and full of holes. I even saw blood on a blanket. The walls had holes too, and the whole room was run down. I was very uncomfortable having my two-year-old daughter stay there. I asked for a refund within five minutes. The man at the desk was rude, and while I was packing and trying to find another hotel, he knocked and kicked us out because he thought we'd damage the room. I waited outside for a taxi. This is by far the worst motel I've ever dealt with.

We got our money back after my husband pointed out the fire code problems, and I would never stay in a room like that again. The smoke detector wires were cut and there were no batteries. Most rooms smelled of smoke, and after we requested non-smoking rooms, my grandparents' room reeked of cigarettes. The furniture was metal folding chairs, and the place was disgusting. My husband lay down and found a spider crawling on the pillow. There were mouse droppings on the bathroom counter. The festival in town also pushed the price up by $40 a night. At that price, I expected better. This place should be shut down.

The staff were friendly, and the owner understood when we wanted to cancel. The manager let us cancel without a charge, which I appreciated. Still, the rooms were nothing like the ads. Ours was wrecked, with the headboard on the floor and broken dresser drawers with their pieces tossed into the openings. The ceiling and wallpaper were coming apart. I felt uneasy and worried my car might be broken into. From the highway, the motel could pass for abandoned, and I'm sure there's a reason for that. Unless you have nowhere else to go, I'd avoid it.
