Hampton Inn Hornell

Our room had big mustard-looking stains on the carpet and drywall missing around the AC and heat vent, despite this being a newly built hotel. Cold air came in so strongly that we put a rolled-up towel there, and it froze to the wall overnight. I paid extra for a suite with a pullout sofa for our group, but at 10:30 p.m. we found a printed note saying not to use it and to ask the desk for a rollaway. The agent was great, but only one rollaway was allowed under fire code. How was I meant to fit two kids on it? In the end, all three kids slept in one bed. I should've booked a standard two-queen room and saved the money. The pool chlorine was also off the charts. After about 20-30 minutes swimming, all the kids had what looked like chemical burns on their arms and legs, so we made them shower as soon as we got back to the room. The front desk agent at check-in and the night agent were great, and the breakfast attendant was amazing, attentive, kind, helpful, and always smiling. The front desk manager was rude, though. Half an hour after check-in, she banged on our door to remind us that only guests staying in the room could swim. I work in travel, so I know that. When I explained we were celebrating my daughter's eighth birthday, nothing wild, she shook her head in annoyance, stomped back to the desk, then returned with a pool waiver for me to sign. She also warned that if there was a noise complaint, she'd have to ask us to leave. Yet around 9 p.m., a bingo league or something down past the pool had what sounded like two dozen adults screaming. Somehow our three eight-year-olds were the issue. We won't stay again, unfortunately. It's such a fun spot for a kids' birthday sleepover, especially in winter.

We broke up a long drive to Niagara Falls with one night here, and had a wonderful experience. The hotel was immaculate and everything was well kept. Staff were kind and helpful, with plenty of people at reception. Breakfast was great, especially the waffle station. At checkout, reception even let my daughter choose a toy from the toy chest. I can't say enough good things, 10/10!

I was told the rooms were oversold when I arrived, and was offered an off-brand hotel 45 minutes away. I didn't accept, but they still charged me for a no-show, even though they were the ones who didn't show up for me. Weeks later I'm still trying to get my money back, and I've never received an apology. I guess we'll let the credit card people handle it now. Check your bills closely. This company is absolutely dishonest and nothing but rude thieves.

When my kids and I visit family in town, we love staying here. The pet-friendly rooms are nice, and breakfast and the pool are definite bonuses. The staff are always accommodating, and James in particular goes above and beyond to make us feel welcome. 🙂
