Holiday Inn Express Houghton-Keweenaw by IHG

I booked about a month ahead and drove from Minnesota to Michigan expecting the room shown in my email confirmations, which I have as proof. It was advertised as roughly 600 square feet, with a full kitchen, two bathrooms, and two queen beds. Instead, the room I was assigned was about 300 square feet, had one bathroom, and no kitchen. I went back to the desk and calmly explained that my confirmation looked right, so it seemed the assignment had changed after I booked. Randy denied that any change could have happened. When I asked why I wasn't getting the room I'd reserved, he became dismissive and accusatory. He called me “impatient,” though I wasn't, brought up my “membership status” and said I wasn't an elite member, then threatened to call the police if I didn't leave. I wasn't causing a scene, just trying to understand why I had the wrong room after booking well in advance. Randy was abrupt, discourteous, and unprofessional throughout, escalating things instead of explaining or trying to fix the problem. What should have been the start of a relaxing Michigan vacation became stressful and disappointing. This happened in late December 2025, and they still haven't contacted me. Stay away if you don't want to be gaslit by front desk associate Randy.

The staff were especially friendly and helpful, and you can tell they're working hard to keep the hotel clean. My dog was welcome, which made me very happy. The room was very clean, the beds were amazing, and the linens were fresh. It had what you'd expect from a chain hotel, plus a really comfy lobby, a pool, and a hot tub.

I come here often when I'm in town, and they always meet my needs. The pool, hot tub, and sauna are a pleasure to use, and the hotel is close to restaurants, stores, and MI Tech. It's about 1:40 west of Marquette, 50 minutes south of Copper Harbor, and 25 minutes from where phone service ends. Whether it's the comfortable bed, the beautiful drive, or the hospitality of the locals, I highly recommend staying here. Great hotel close to town!

I've stayed here twice and liked it so much I wanted to leave a review. The rooms are awesome, and they even upgraded ours for free. The pool and sauna are wonderful. I love this hotel!
