SpringHill Suites by Marriott New Orleans Downtown/Canal Street

The front desk staff were fantastic, really welcoming and going above and beyond. Our bartender was friendly and informative too, though I can’t remember his name, and the service was great. The updated room was nice and very clean. There’s a little bar upstairs, and the top floor has lovely city views, especially at night.

We had to walk seven blocks just to find somewhere to eat, and the basic breakfast didn’t feel worth the price. We paid $700 for three nights in a tiny room, 25 square metres instead of the 58 we’d asked for. The room also wasn’t what had been promised, and housekeeping only came every two days. The air conditioning didn’t work, so we were freezing. At 3 a.m. on our last night, the fire alarm went off because a guest was supposedly cooking, which we doubt. We ran outside with our three little children crying. They showed us no consideration and offered no compensation. This was horrible. I’m suffering, freezing in that tiny room with my husband and three children, and just want it to end. Don’t waste your money or your life here.

Housekeeping came only once in the four days we stayed, which made reusing towels inconvenient. I also still haven’t received the full deposit I was told would be returned at checkout as long as nothing was damaged or missing. I left the room clean and undamaged. The rooftop view of New Orleans was amazing, and there was nothing wrong with the room itself; everything seemed fine until the deposit issue. I won’t be back.

The room was clean, the bed comfortable, and the Canal Street streetcar is just a few blocks away. Parking was expensive, but that’s the case all over New Orleans if you want somewhere safe. Latanya was wonderful with the double charge through Booking.com, and she was friendly enough to remember our names by the fourth day.
