Hilton Garden Inn Houston/Galleria Area

The pool and hot tub were a real highlight. Both were usable and well maintained, the water felt comfortable, and the area was clean without that gross chlorine-and-mystery-grime feeling. The hot tub was hot and relaxing, with no broken jets or lukewarm disappointment. The rest of the stay was easy too. Parking was straightforward, with no surprise fee, and I could get from the car to my room without a hassle. Check-in and checkout went smoothly, staff were helpful, and the clean, practical room had a comfortable bed, working temperature control, and everything else functioning as it should. Noise was reasonable, so I slept well. The whole place felt well run.

Both double rooms for our group of four were clean and comfortable, and the halls looked well kept. I even saw housekeepers doing a thorough job in other rooms and seeming to take pride in cleanliness. The location felt safe, the price was right, and we had no problems. It’s a bit of a drive from the airport, but worth it. When our flight was canceled, they kindly gave us late checkout for the later replacement flight. The lobby was nice, and this location didn’t seem as outdated as some people said, except for the shower curtains instead of glass doors. I’d been hesitant after reading reviews, but I’m glad I booked after weighing the good ones too. I’ve stayed at several Hilton Garden Inns and know they can be hit or miss. The rate we picked included breakfast, but breakfast was added to my final bill. Once I noticed at home, I called. The woman I spoke with fixed it and refunded the difference. She said she’d call back while working on it, and she did. I could see the refund pending on my Capital One card right away. Every staff member we dealt with was kind. Small mistakes shouldn’t put you off if they’re fixed; if you ask for towels and the front desk brings them, that’s not a reason to take stars away. Take stars away when they don’t fix things or make it difficult. A lot of the negative reviews are pure entitlement.

The staff were a big part of why this was one of my better stays. Jay the manager, Kim the sales manager, and Marco the bartender were all kind, courteous, and professional. The rooms were clean and had the amenities I expect from Hilton. Breakfast was the usual fare, cooked well; the evening menu was small but offered a variety of dishes, and the bar was clean and well stocked. I was in town for work, and the location worked well, with good restaurants and activities nearby and maintained roads. The garage is multilevel and covered, and it’s only about 20 feet from the rear entrance. There isn’t much room in the area, so I understand why parking is an issue people bring up.

I’m a Diamond Member, and one of my perks is snacks and drinks at check-in, often a nice way to try local flavors. This hotel didn’t offer that. There were only water bottles in the room.
