Holiday Inn Express Houston North Intercontinental

I had to stay a few extra days after my flight was delayed by the winter storm, and the staff were kind and helpful the whole time. The room and hotel were warm, clean, and very nice. Breakfast was hot and delicious every day, with different things in the cold weather: biscuits and gravy one day, then hot cinnamon rolls and muffins, cereal and milk, eggs and bacon, or sausage, hash browns, turkey sausage, and warm pancakes. The woman at the front desk was really nice and did her best to help. They even have a cute kitty on staff!

The staff were great and very helpful, and the lobby looked good. Floor four was a different story: worn out, like it was under construction, and it smelled strongly of rotten food. My room smelled of chlorine, and one pillow had stains. The WiFi didn’t work on that floor. I’ve stayed at around 50 other Holiday Inns, and this one felt very average by comparison. I saw a shuttle parked outside but didn’t use it. There may be better airport options nearby for the same price. I can’t speak to the other floors, but I’d avoid the fourth.

I booked this as an airport hotel mainly because it claimed to have a free shuttle, but the shuttle wasn’t running and I had to use Uber for both trips. The place was dirty, with bits of maintenance debris around. My room was grubby, the bath was chipped and had a broken stopper, and the amenities were hanging off the wall. The safe had been forced open and the safety lock was loose. Staff seemed completely uninterested and had a don’t-care attitude. The hotel can’t be relied on for airport transport. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the shuttle worked fine. If you’re arriving at the airport, call the hotel right away to arrange pickup and go to Terminal C, where the shuttle collects passengers. For a ride from the hotel to the airport, tell the receptionist ahead of time when you need it and you should be fine. The facilities and rooms are very dated, and cleanliness was average, although my bed was comfortable. I wouldn’t recommend the hotel, as the dated facilities need a lot of improvement.
