La Quinta Inn by Wyndham Houston Greenway Plaza Medical Area

There were crumbs all over the floor, roaches in the bathroom, and a leaking, constantly running toilet. Both front desk staff we met were rude, and most of the channels listed in the TV guide weren’t available. We didn’t even bother checking out breakfast. The hotel is run down and poorly cleaned, with little sign they’re putting money into repairs or housekeeping. I usually read reviews before booking, but skipped that this time and regretted it. Find another place and save your money.

The road noise was awful, with the freeway on one side and a busy road on the other, so a quiet night seems unlikely. The room was dirty and smelled like dirt or mold. Walls were grimy, the tub had burn marks, and paint was peeling from the ceiling above the shower. We had to drive around back to reach a room with an outside door, which felt unsafe and sketchy. The online pictures made the place look decent, but it didn’t feel that way in person. I should have taken my kids and left, but one was half asleep after the drive and I didn’t want to face Houston traffic again. Check-in also took a while, since we waited 15 minutes for the desk person to return from helping another guest.

This time I got a suite, and it was definitely worth paying a little more. My kids had their own bedroom, the bed was fine, and I liked having free parking, breakfast included, and a pool. Breakfast had biscuits and gravy, oatmeal, sausage, eggs, and the usual bakery items. The location is dated, but that didn’t bother me; the shower was small and didn’t have a curved rod. My husband travels around the region, so I’ve tried five Houston La Quintas. The one by Hobby is my favorite, and for the price I preferred this one over the Marriott. I’ve stayed here before in a basic room, which was tiny and forgettable.

Veronica at the front desk was wonderful. She answered all my questions, had great customer service, and helped me make a reservation, which I appreciated. I ended up canceling after I read the reviews, something I should have done before booking, and stayed at another hotel. My rating is only for my interaction with the front desk. I hope they update the building soon, since that’s where the hotel seems to fall short.
