The employees were all polite and helpful, and I really appreciate that. Still, almost everything else was awful. The rooms smelled moldy and the hallways reeked of cigarettes. There’s no room service, though you can ask the front desk for towels. Some fresh towels had makeup on them. The dryer didn’t work, but we were able to get a replacement. The shower kept dripping and running even after we tightened it. Some dresser drawers were broken, and the key cards kept losing their magnetism. I saw other guests having to get replacements frequently too. I couldn’t eat the breakfast, just sausages and watery scrambled eggs. The pool area looked pretty and had towels, but it wasn’t clear whether the water or nearby area was ever tested or cleaned. There’s a fitness area, but no free weights because people stole them. The three machines were either broken or unusable, with sticky, falling-apart handles. There were no wipes in the gym. The cigarette smell in the hallways and moldy smell in the rooms were probably the worst parts.
I’ve stayed here a few times over the years. The rooms are solid, cleanliness mostly satisfactory, and breakfast is elite for this price. I’m writing because of the great service before and after my latest reservation. The night auditor, whose name I unfortunately didn’t get, was warm and welcoming and clearly good at her job. She seemed to handle several jobs by herself, all very well and with a smile. Xander, who works afternoons, was friendly and capable too. He was patient and understanding when my pet got out of her carrier and hid under the stairwell. Both deserve recognition. On what seemed like a normal day, I watched them deal with some rude, impatient guests with ease and tact, while keeping their positivity and good vibe. Major green flag!
We stayed in a fully renovated first-floor king room on April 5, 2024, while passing through on our way to the eclipse in San Antonio, Texas. It was nice and clean, and the staff were kind and helpful. We also talked with a couple of people who were gutting rooms from ceiling to floor as part of the complete renovation. The continental breakfast was adequate for this hotel and included waffles. We have nothing bad to say. If you need an affordable place that fits your budget, this is a good one, and we’d stay again.
I got the quiet break I was after, and the bed was comfortable with clean linens. The room itself was basic but had what I needed, and they let me bring my cat for a modest $25 fee without any hassle. The building is showing its age. My king room on the third floor had stained carpet, some hallway sections smelled strongly of stale smoke, and there was an unexpected pesticide odor in the air. Still, La Quinta Inn in the Galleria Area was decent enough, and I’d stay again.
The location is really convenient, and the exterior and lobby look nice. After that, though, it’s a letdown. The rooms are old, and there’s no microwave or mini fridge, so you can’t heat anything up or keep it cold. Front desk service depends on who’s working. Some staff are friendly and helpful, while others ignore you.
