GreenTree Inn Houston IAH Airport

The staff I met were lovely and friendly, and the location was convenient, well-lit, and close to shops. My stay was pretty good, but there were several problems in the room: no toilet paper, a hole in the shower, no TV channels, and dirty, stained bed linen. The adjoining-room door was also open when I entered. I have a service animal and was told I'd still have to pay a pet deposit. I've never had to pay one for her at a hotel, only show her paperwork. I'd like confirmation that this is required.

It was a comfortable stay, and I enjoyed my time there. The place was clean, peaceful, in a decent area, and the customer service was friendly. Room prices were reasonable too. There are some downsides. They only have coffee from 4 a.m. onward, with no breakfast. The layout feels like a hole in the wall, with only two doors to get in and out, which could be dangerous if there were a fire upstairs or a burglary. There's no microwave in the room, so you have to go all the way to the front to warm something up. No vending machines either. You have to buy things from their ice box, and water costs $1.25 while a small Hot Pocket costs $3.

United Airlines gave us a hotel voucher after a flight delay left us stuck in Houston overnight. The airport shuttle was grimy and dirty, a bad first impression, but the front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. We were put in a non-smoking room on the second floor, yet had to walk through a cloud of smoke to reach it. The bathroom was dirty with soap scum, and when my son pulled back the covers, we found dark curly hairs on the sheets. They clearly hadn't been washed between guests. We checked out and went to the Sheraton next door, which was much cleaner and better. I don't recommend this hotel. The Sheraton was worth the extra money.

I liked the staff, and the heater worked well. It's very convenient to IAH, with a decent shuttle, but I still won't return. The bed had a huge lump in the middle, and the pillows looked 20 years old with cases that didn't fit. The phone was barely held together and didn't work, and it looked like the place may have had bed bugs at some point. This isn't a good neighborhood either. A man outside said he couldn't breathe, then asked for a cigarette after someone called an ambulance. Two stars for the nice staff.
