Sonder - 2306 Marquee Uptown

The apartments are a little old, but this isn’t a new build, and the property is beautiful and well landscaped. Rachel, the property manager, follows through and does a great job looking after the place. When a family member moved from NY, she rented here until finding her forever home in #Houston, and Rachel was kind and accommodating throughout. The pool and Cabana were lovely, and the property was well kept. The laundry room was clean, and a wash cost $0.01. There are lots of dining options on site, and the location is a 2 minute walk from the mall in the prestigious Galleria area. If you’re looking to rent nearby, contact Rachel. I’ve lived here for almost a year and a half, and I’m getting ready to move into a townhouse on the property. It’s still an amazing place. I haven’t been here very long, but it’s quiet and only a few blocks from the Galleria, I believe. Whole foods is within walking distance. It’s been my best apartment experience, and I even asked management for the longest lease they could offer. Rachele, the property manager, is what won me over and made me choose this place over another one. The boutique style homes on the Carriage Square side feel like home. I looked at supposedly luxury apartments that didn’t have wall to wall wood plank faux flooring. Here, the granite countertops are beautiful, they finished the backsplash, and the kitchen and bathroom have genuine Carrara marble floors. Even though these apartments weren’t built in the last 10 years, they’ve put in high end faucets that suit the place. I read Lena Bell’s review and can say that, in my experience, Rachelle has never made anyone feel less than a VIP. People of every nationality live here, including African American men and women. I can name two who came in during my tour and on the day I signed, and she spoke with them like old friends. Rachel remembers people’s names and a little about them. Some people blame everything on racism, which I don’t understand. I’m definitely not white or wealthy.

Parking was my main gripe. The spaces on the far side from the building are too small for most cars to fit comfortably. It might work better to allow fewer cars there, or put just one car in every other opening. Street parking is fairly safe, though there isn’t a lot of it. Even with that issue, I’d still be living at the Marquee if I could. I stayed on the Carriage Square side twice, first from June 2012 to October 2013, then from March 2016 to June 2017 after returning to the area. I came back after repatriating because I loved it there. I’ve lived in many apartments in Houston and elsewhere, and nowhere have I been treated as fairly. Any issue I raised with the office was resolved promptly. The owner can seem curmudgeonly and exacting, and I’ve heard people complain about that. But he’s also outside checking on the landscaping and making sure the awnings are cleaned properly, which is why the place looks so good. The building’s older, but that’s part of its charm, and the care it gets makes its age a non-issue. It’s lovely to walk in and out every day, and the location is hard to beat. When traffic got bad, I’d leave my car and walk to the Galleria, Nordstrom Rack, or even Kenny and Ziggy's. If you’re looking anywhere near the Galleria, the Marquee is seriously worth considering.

I’d been looking for an apartment for about three weeks when I met Anna. She turned the day around so much that I ended up leasing at Carriage Square. I don’t usually leave reviews, but I had to thank her for such a great experience.
