The Moran Citycentre

The location was a real plus, with lots of restaurants and things to do right downstairs. Our room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were friendly throughout. We stayed on a higher floor and had a beautiful view. It was a really nice stay.

The staff made the stay feel special from the first hello at check-in to checkout. Someone was always at the desk with a smile whenever we walked by. My wife and I chose The Moran for an anniversary staycation last year, even though we usually stay with other hotel chains, and we were glad we tried it. Our room had a great view of City Center, and they even put my name on the TV. Shops and restaurants were an easy walk away. We’d love to come back.

The location is great, but the price and hassle weren’t worth it for me. They charged $150 more than my confirmation showed, even though I had no incidental expenses. I called and emailed to sort it out and get a receipt for my work expense report, but after more than a week I still hadn’t heard back. The valet, which is supposedly separate from the hotel, was very slow and had no call-ahead option. The elevators were painfully slow too. One morning, a man was already waiting when I arrived; he said he’d been there 10 minutes, and I waited another five. The room was okay, and the beds weren’t awful, but they weren’t great. The small workout room had little equipment and washcloths instead of towels. They present the place as luxury, but to me it’s two stars at best.

We left early without even showering. The room smelled strongly of mildew, especially the bathroom, and even the soap smelled bad. We’d checked in very late and were too exhausted to deal with it. It also looked like only two of the four elevators worked, and with a party going on in the bar beside reception, we weren’t going to wait again among a crowd of drunk revelers. The location is great for a night out, which makes the hotel’s poor quality hard to understand. It looks gilded on the surface but feels shabby underneath. This was our anniversary night, and we were really disappointed. I stayed here years ago when it was the Sonesta and it was lovely. I’d recommended it to family and friends, but won’t anymore.
